[PRP] The Perfect Napping Spot [Yawn/Sleepy Time]

Post by Ruriska »

It was well known by all who had met Yawn that she could sleep anywhere. On rocks, in water, standing, sitting, and once in a muddy sinkhole that had threatened to swallow her whole. There was never any barrier to falling asleep, and normally anything would do. She wasn’t very picky.

However, today Yawn had found herself feeling restless and after some time spent in thought, she had decided that it was because she needed the perfect sleeping spot. Thus she began her wandering, far from her normal route (where her family knew to check on her), her gaze half-lidded, taking slow and measured steps.

It might have been snowing, approaching dark and wolves were howling in the distance but she remained unperturbed. A soft smile had settled on her face as she determinedly sought out the perfect place to nap.

[PRP] The Perfect Napping Spot [Yawn/Sleepy Time]

Like the as yet unknown doe, Sleepy Time could (and would) sleep anywhere that he was able to do so without being disturbed - and sometimes, if he were being truly honest, in places where he could be disturbed but chose to sleep anyway because he was tired and wanted to lay down and that was all that mattered.

On this particularly snowy evening, he had found a spot beneath a tree that was half hidden from passers by with large, thick shrubbery and a generous amount of low, overhanging branches. It made a nice little safe haven of sorts, and Sleepy Time had staked out the place for quite some time before determining it The place, the one he could finally relax in. He had wandered out of the caves he was so used to in search of somewhere better, and he thought that perhaps this was it.

So, he was back, and it still wasn't taken, and there were even a few tasty berries on some of the bushes. Sleepy Time stood and admired it for a moment, pleased at his prowess in finding it, then took a step towards it, ready to enjoy his newfound peace and sleep.

She didn’t see him at first, despite how blue he was. Her focus was entirely elsewhere, her half-lidded gaze seeing only the spot. She could tell instantly it was the place. The low hanging boughs were laden with thick leaves, keeping the area free from snow and providing shelter. You could barely even see within, someone would have to walk forwards and push past the brush and the leaves to find her tucked within.

Yawn also took a step - and then she saw him and stopped, because if she’d kept going forward she simply would have run into him.

“Oh,” she said, confusion furrowing her brow, as if he’d simply appeared out of thin air and had not been standing there the whole time. “Is... is this your spot?”

The snow wasn't thick, not yet, but there was a chance it would start to gather as the night wore on. Which meant that it was only a matter of time before his precious, perfect spot was no more, especially with someone else currently occupying it. The idea of going out and trying to find another spot was less than appealing on many levels.

There was a moment of silence between himself and the doe that stretched out awkwardly as Sleepy Time glanced first at the spot, and then at the doe, and then back at the spot and then the doe again. If it had been the desert, a tumbleweed may have rumbled by.

"Well," he said at length, and then stopped. "I mean."

His stomach made a grumbling noise, which he ignored. "Kind of," said Sleepy Time. "I mean, I found it."

Yawn was used to long silences and stood patiently, watching him as he alternated between glances, giving him all the time he needed to tell her that ‘yes, this was his spot’, even if he didn’t quite use those words.

Another silence followed, this time waiting on her but she hoped her sleepy smile mitigated any awkwardness until she finally said, “o-oh my, well... it’s a very... nice spot”. It was a shame she wouldn’t get to enjoy it but she wasn’t going to try and steal it from him and was genuinely happy that he had such a nice little napping area. He had good taste.

“I’ll... I’ll keep moving.”

Another wolf howled in the distance and a cold wind blustered through, ruffling her hair.

She began turning to leave.

“Have- have a good day.”
