"We've got to get to her, Vigil Keeper, it's the only way!"
Rise to the Challenge paced in the dark room, his red glow illuminating everything within a twenty foot radius of himself, the dim light helping him to see what things he had in this tiny cell-like place. He'd been locked in by accident and the only one that could help was the other hero he'd teamed up with to get this mission done. Vigil Keeper was a very morose hero and Rise really didn't know how he'd gotten into the line of work they were in, but he wasn't going to be picky about who could help him escape this room.
"We need to get to Plum before it's too late! She's the key to all this," he went on, trying to throw himself against the locked door again. It didn't budge.
From the other side of the door he could hear Vigil Keeper trying his best to hunt for anything that might be able to break the knob or the wood of the door itself, but clearly he was coming up with nothing. The urgency in Rise's voice didn't seem to make him move any faster, either.
"Come on, Vigil Keeper!" Rise snarled as he hunted the empty room again for anything that might be helpful. There was a desk that was bolted to the floor and a few things on it, like a box of tissues, a pen, and some paper. There were also strange grates in the ceiling that led to some pretty impressive duct work, but Rise had already tried and failed to yank those off for an escape. His superpower was the glow that naturally emanated from his body which he could control the intensity of, but that didn't help him at all in this situation.
His current partner on the other side also wasn't very helpful. He could see dead people, apparently, but that also didn't help with busting down the door. They were two heroes in a rather sticky situation which became sticker as time went on. Rise was starting to feel a bit woozy from throwing himself against the door over and over, his shoulder aching and his chest tight.
"It didn't work the first time, why do you keep trying?" Vigil Keeper's muffled voice from beyond the door asked. Rise could hear some clicking in the lock. Maybe Vigil Keeper had found something to try to pick it with?
"Because I can't just sit here and do nothing," Rise growled back, his glow flaring up for a moment in irritation. He knew Vigil Keeper was right, though. Uselessly hurting himself before they were about to go off and battle evil wasn't a good idea. But they had to get to Plum before anything could happen...
Trying once more, Rise took a deep breath which made him feel even worse. He staggered for a moment, feeling as if his heart was in his throat, but charged the door anyway. This time it felt as if he went right through it with how easily it opened!
"Vigil, you did it!" he exclaimed. The other hero must have opened the lock just as Rise charged through the doorway. But when he turned around, the door was still shut and Vigil Keeper was crouched over the lock, though he'd stopped to look back at Rise with wide eyes.
"...oh dear," Vigil murmured. "Rise...I think you've died."
"What?! If I died, how can I still be talking to you?"
Vigil Keeper raised a brow pointedly.
"...oh. Well. That puts a damper on things, doesn't it?"
