The journey back was more difficult than usual, this year. She wasn't used to hiding the creatures she brought to the swamp, but she wasn't ready to have them be revealed. The other whales . . .; she hoped they were enough to hide any difference that might have flashed out here and there.

Granted the difficulty wouldn't be much until she entered the swamp proper. She needed to recruit, instead of merely thinking about it and the creation of a tribe. That would have to wait until later, though, because of course now would be the time a blessing would be needed. A scowl twisted her lips and she looked at the pod behind her. Could she trust them to stay? It was always a maybe at the best of times.
With more than a few whales at her back, Breach sucked in a breath and turned east towards the pull. If only her mother-aunt was nearby.

"Stay close, please," she begged the whales as she set off. It was only a few steps until she, herself, became a whale, too. And then two whales because it was easier to lead and close the others off from straying too far. She'd never done a blessing with a group before. She wasn't sure she liked the idea much.
