[PRP] And They Curse Our Existence (The Scream Stricken x Ancient)

Post by anemosagkelos »

A sea of sisters; he grumbled in annoyance as the trio left him once more to do whatever it was that sisters did without their brothers. He could have gone with them, he supposed, but he was not like them or his parents.

His father might have looked menacing, but the acha was also elegant. His mother was sleek, someone others stared at in reverence. And then there were his sisters that were bright and colorful and interesting, jellyfish that one wanted to cuddle with until the stings reminded them to think better of such foolishness. He, well, he looked menacing and he was, sometimes. He had been screamed at and cursed at and probably outright cursed at some point or another. It was hard to keep track. Usually, it was amusing. Usually, anyway.

With more effort than it should have been, The Scream Stricken heaved himself out of the mud that had sunk under his weight. A splash of water enveloped him as he fell into the lake. The black and green curls of his hair floated on the surface as he sunk low in the water, much like a caiman or a crocodile. But even those which kin feared most had mates and children. Did that make him worse? Was he some sort of villain? He looked the part with his horns arching out of the water like fangs and bright yellow eyes that pierced into one's soul. But looking the part was not the same as feeling it or even being it.

The gaggle of sisters should have been a clue, probably. He could be fierce and terrifying, but maybe he didn't always want to be. It'd be nice to be invited along. It'd be nice to be looked at, seen. Liked.

He sunk beneath the water, let the world of sunlight blur as the murk of silt danced before settling back to the bottom. To be liked; he was a dreamer.

Ancient's body ached. The trek to get here was a long one and she labored under the hot sun for a day too long. She was soaked in sweat and dried mud. She needed a bath. Perhaps it was necessity of the bath that made her clumsy in her perusal of the lake. So when she dipped jumped into the lake, she wasn't too careful with what or who she landed on.

A hard body crashed down upon the buck and suddenly the only important thing in the world was the ability to breathe. He shoved himself up, mouth breaking the surface to gulp down a breath, before the rest of him followed and whirled to see what in the world was trying to drown him.

He expected something to be bright and starkly wrong, considering something had attacked him and tried to drag him down until he was naught but another skeleton on the bottom. But there was nothing obvious, there was nothing at all, really. Except the barest hint of another kin in the water.

"Are you okay?" he ventured after a beat, "Or do you just like killing unexpecting bucks?" He grinned, a soft laugh escaping at his joke.

Ancient could not catch a break. She was enraged that she could not bathe in peace, upset at how unlucky she was, but ultimately she was embarrassed to have misjudged the entire event so wrongly. Her face was stuck in a half snarl as she tried to get her emotions and face under control. She stammered a reply. She was so in the wrong for jumping on a buck. He was red, too. It's not like he blended in with the water.

"I'm I'm so sorry. I have been traveling for so long. I don't know how I didn't see you." She blinked her eyes in emphasis to make sure they were working and still connected in her head.

"Lucky for you, killing bucks aren't on the agenda today. That's a weekend sport." And realizing how she was up in his face still, she swam a little back. It felt nice to tread water. Little bits of dried off dirt would soon fall off.

"No need to fret, I have enough sisters that I'm no stranger to does trampling me," he reassured the doe with a smile. She didn't flinch from him nor did she scream like so many others. A wonder pulsed, but he bit down hard on such ideas of hope. There was still time for this to go sour, too much time really. He tried to hide the sigh by ducking his head.

"What luck, then, to meet you on a day where I am not your prey. I guess luck really does have to happen to everyone eventually." Which sounded sad, awful really. Maybe this was why he couldn't make friends. The melancholy just slipped into everything, like rot from the inside to the outside.

He ducked beneath the water, embarrassed and sad and lonely, before popping back up and trying to fixed a smile to his face. Isn't that what his sisters did? Smile? And they were adored.

"I'm The Scream Stricken," he introduced himself, "and you are?" At the very least, he could say he knew the name of a kin. That was progress, something to be proud of! Right?
