[PRP] Safety First [Sleeping World Fam]

They loved on the coast. The ocean was not just an integral part of their everyday lives, but Worlds herself held an intimate bound with the water. There were dangers beneath the waves, but the ocean itself held its own perils. The tides, though predictable in nature, could turn unexpectedly. Under tows could snatch the unsuspecting and drag them out to sea. Waves could be deceptive and punishing. Instinct would not protect their children from all these dangers.

They would have to be taught, and the sooner the better. Firstly though, they needed to know how to swim comfortably, strongly. She and Bay were both very serious about this.

So on the first calm day the family found themselves on a sunny patch of sand near a bit of coastline that was sheltered from the rougher surf by a length of sandbar. It was early yet, the babes still sleepy. Worlds lay patiently in the sand, one ear trained on the soft lapping waves, as she waited for her children, and her paramore, to wake up a little more before heading into the water.

The restless wiggling of his son did more to wake Bay Sleep than the distant crash of the waves or the various seabirds squawking further down the beach. He flicked an ear and grumbled. Usually, he'd roll over, but he was also being squashed by his daughter who draped herself over him at some point in the night. Bay Sleep heaved a sigh of acceptance and opened his eyes. The first thing he spotted was Worlds Within Worlds, his mate, waiting patiently. A smile spread across his snout as he murmured lightly to her, "Are you ready for the festivities, love?"

His words were enough to stir the foal pressed up behind him, though Bay Sleep was convinced the foal had likely been up for hours already, wiggling in anticipation. Thankfully, he listened well enough to not go bounding towards the waves by himself. The signal that his parents were awake was enough for him, though, and Hushed Gathering peeked his little head over Bay Sleep's flank. "Is it time? Can we go? Pleaaaaaase?" he chirped.

Drop in the Ocean was still but awake. His eyes were trained on the shore with a dangerous fascination. His dreams called to him and his little legs began to carry himself toward the shore. It was so close, so close he could touch it. He wanted to be a part of it and the child couldn't tell the difference between reality and dreams as he wiped the sleep from his eyes like sand and dragged his feet loudly through the sand.

Sunset Swell had been snoozing rather deeply until the shifting of her father and siblings roused the bright little filly. She yawned widely, little legs kicking up in a deep stretch before she rolled herself over and got to her hooves with a shimmy of a shake to free the clinging sand from her sleek flank. She was up, now, and with a bright smile pulling at the babe's small maw, she made her less than graceful way out of the din to where her mother lay waiting for them, headbutting into Worlds' side.

"As much as one can be, she answered, smiling down at Sunset and nosing at her ear. Bright eyes flicking up to watch Bay at the other babies, some sleepy still, but at least two sets of eyes were keenly trained on the waves. "Drop, Hushed, come here loves." They looked eager to charge right in, but Worlds hoped they'd get the story she'd told them the night before in mind.

Another loud yawn sounded from the tangle of long tails and and long hair still in the den, and Deep lifted his head reluctantly. He'd been laying tucked up against Drop's side, but shifted in the sand as he heard his mother calling for his brothers, stretching before pushing himself up to stand, but only so he could more easily lean against his father's lanky side.

His mother's call was more than enough encouragement for Hushed Gathering to get moving. He clambered over his father's legs and trotted towards Worlds, kicking sand behind him. The young foal's curled tail bounced behind him as he jittered with excitement. Sure, his mother's story the night before was on his mind, but it did little to dampen his excitement to finally get into the ocean. He would be super careful! He would listen so hard! He was going to swim better than he'd ever swam before! Which was...never. That was besides the point! He playfully nudged his sister, Sunset Swell, when he reached her, and smiled. "Come onnnnn!" he called back to his father and siblings. He heard the ocean beckoning to him in hushed whispers and lapping waves and couldn't wait any longer to play in the sea's open embrace.

Written in the Ancient Sediments was excited to learn to swim, sure. There were so many beautiful things under the sea for her to discover, she just needed to learn how to get to them. The whispers of the sea were not lost on her, and the little foal spent most of the previous night listening to them. This probably contributed to why she was so tired, but the tiny doe did not have the same outward enthusiasm as her siblings most days. At the moment, she was unceremoniously draped over her father and held her eyes closed. Maybe if she didn't move, she could sleep in a little longer. The ocean wasn't going anywhere! What was so wrong with sleeping in? The groan she heard from her father informed her he likely felt the same.

Bay Sleep glanced up at his sleepy daughter and grinned. The little doe looked content to sleep well into the afternoon before starting their festivities, but he knew there was no way he could hold back her siblings until then. "Want a ride to the water?" He whispered to her gently. Her sleepy nod was all he needed, and Bay Sleep gingerly got to his feet without jostling the doe draped over him. Once he was upright and she was comfortably flopped over him like a length of kelp, he looked over the scene. A pressure on his leg brought his attention lower, and his smile widened a little more. Deep Found Peace hadn't charged headlong towards the water and leaned sleepily against him as well. Bay Sleep bent his head low and nuzzled his son gently. "Let's go," he murmured with an encouraging tone before he started to move forward, "it'll be a lot of fun."

Drop in the Ocean was staring at the waves as they crashed into the shore. His eyes looked at Deep Found Peace who'd been sleeping next to him, and then to his mother when she'd called. He did remember the story, but would that mean he could never go in? It was just a story, and the ocean was here calling to him! It looked so clear and cool, and he just wanted to splash around in it. He didn't want to disobey mom but...

In his dilemma his butt hit the sand, and he began to pout over it. He wanted to go in now!

With his last cushion now careying his sister out of the sun Deep let out a soft whine before pushing to his feet to follow along after his father. He didn't doubt that it was going to be fun, but why did they have to wake up so early for this? Surely the waves would still be there in the afternoon.

Though...maybe his siblings wouldn't be able to wait that long...

He bumped up against Drop as he passed. "Mom called you over," he informed the other colt, tail flicking to hit him gently on the hip as he headed for their mother.

Worlds chuckled, nodding to Deep's comment. "Yes, come here sweetheart." Hushed and Swell were practically vibrating with excitement, and Worlds noses the cool colored colt as he joined her and Swells. "We'll go in in just a moment, we've just got some ground rules to go over."

She looked up to watch Bay carrying Written over, Deep in tow behind him. Her sleepy sweethearts. It made her smile fondly at them as Swell eyed Hushed and then leaped at him.
