[PRP] Just One More Night

If Stardust had to pick one word to describe the last month, it would be awesome. The weather had been unseasonably warm, the skies were cloudless at night, and Winter Market had been a hoot and a half. He'd met so many new kin both at booths and those that had joined him out on the sands to gaze up at the stars. He'd learned some new stories about constellations, had some laughs, and maybe even flirted a bit. All in all, it had been a great time.

And now...now the kin were starting to pack up their booths and head on back to wherever they'd come from. Stardust tended to stick near the shore, though during the colder weather he did venture inland a bit to seek shelter in the trees. But for now the air was still warm and calm, no hints of snow or wind on the horizon, so rather than following the group of kin away from the sands he headed out to the beach one more time.

The sun was still setting and true stargazing couldn't happen for a little while yet, but he could enjoy the colors of the sky as the sun sank behind the horizon. He stood on the cooling sand with a fond, if bittersweet feeling in his chest. He really didn't want it to end.

"Wonder what next year will bring," he mused aloud, considering himself alone for the time being. Stardust didn't usually talk to himself, but after spending a month in such good company it was a little odd to be the only kin on the beach. He'd get used to it again, or at the very least find someone to hang around for a while. Maybe it would even be one of the kin he'd met! That would be fun.

Light As Liquid looked back and forth between the mild shore and the chilly woods. He was pretty sure his familiar had disappeared into the chilly winter woods, but, on the other hand, Flump would probably take care of herself, no matter how clumsy she was. The unnaturally-gregarious lynx knew their mutually-favorite haunts. But this! This had been a unique opportunity. He didn't want it to end.

Light instinctively moved away from the pairs and groups of kin winding their way away from this year's market meadow, and down to the shore. There was something compelling about the way the sky and horizon opened up without anything to block his line of sight for them. And there was something frighteningly compelling, to Light as Liquid, about the ocean. How deep? How vast? And how could he ever know?

Light realized that while he could not, perhaps today, answer any questions about the ocean and what lay beyond, there was something else he didn't know yet: how far did this little pocket of summer extend? He paced down the beach, letting the warm water kiss the edges of his hooves.s

Oh. Um. So there was someone else at the beach. Light took a deep breath, and put on his best face.

"Ah, good evening. What a sunset, isn't it?" There. That was safe, expected, conversation. But it was only one buck, much easier to deal with than a crowd or a circle. His expression relaxed, as he waited for the other kin's response.

Stardust was so enthralled with the slowly changing sky that he didn't notice the other buck until he was spoken to. Tearing his gaze from the sunset, Stardust gave the other kin a toothy grin. His sharp teeth could certainly be off-putting to some, but he never let them stop him from smiling.

"Oh, hey! Magnificent doesn't do it justice," he agreed, looking back at the sky to continue enjoying it. Company always made things better in his opinion, so his gaze drifted back to the other buck after just a few moments.

"Had a good Market?" he asked. He hadn't seen this kin around during the festivities, but Stardust knew that there were plenty of booths he himself hadn't made it to and that could be true for this buck as well. It wasn't possible to bump into every kin that had ever been born or hatched even if he wished it could be.
