Tricks had taken a break from the market for a few days. She'd spotted too many bugs roaming and that was never a good sign for her, but now she was wandering back to the Badger booth, ready for a boost to her ego. "Yes hello I'm back and ready for - WHAT IS THIS?!" she shouted.

The snake team was ahead of them? When had this happened? The snake team must've known. Was this their elaborate plan? To worry her and drive her away - HOW DARE THEY. She would show them.

"TEAM MUSHROOOOOM" she bellows, running towards the starting line. A trail run would be easy. She'd been running all year! "BOOO SNAKES! BOOO!"

Tricks quickly darted off not heeding the Totoma's advice to take her time. She had places to be!

She ran along the yellow-stained scenery, wondering what they used to color everything that bright yellow and if she could steal some for her own plans. Lost in her thoughts about the uses for yellow dye, she didn't notice the other kin until she was right up behind them.

"HEY OUTTA MY WAY!" she shouts, veering left to pass the slow poke. "I'M SURE YOU'RE GREAT BUT YOU'RE SLOW ! TEAM MUSHROOM WOOOO!"

She leaves the perplexed kin eating her dust.

Her speed didn't waver. If anything she was even faster now, spurred on by meeting competition on the trail.

Running was so easy! And she had yet to encounter any terrible obstacles this early. The stones were easily hop-able. The weather wasn't rainy, so the ground was dry and stable. The branches were high and could be ducked under quickly. The rabbits were - AH?! There was a rabbit in her path but she was going too fast to stop. Quick thinking sent her front leg back then out, catching the round creature on the tip of her hoof and catapulting it up and into the trees.

"YEAH!" Tricks screeched, regaining her momentum and continuing. Winning a race, saving a rabbit, she was amazing.

After the rabbit, things got a bit rougher. She slowed as the path sloped downward into a stretch of shallow muddy swamp water. Ugh. Best to just get it over with. She splashed into the muck, eyes searching for something yellow-tinged to point her in the right direction. Ah! A tree in the distance on the other side of the waterlogged area sported a splatter of the yellow paint. She loudly splashed through the water, her hooves bouncing off the gritty, yet soft ground. Suddenly, her hoof hit something not so soft. Probably just a log. Except it moved. Rough scales quickly brushed up against her side and she screeched. An alligator?!

She quickly stumbled to the end of the water, sputtering and rolling ashore just in time to dodge the jaws of the angry reptile. Who makes a trail through alligator-infested water?! That was just terribly thoughtless! And maybe even a bit nefarious. It sounded like something that a certain terrible kin would do....Wait... Tricks stopped to think for a moment.

Were the badgers... were the badgers working for her? Did they know? Despite her amazing disguise and tricks to throw everyone off... they must have saw through her somehow. It all made sense now.

The food contest - an attempted poisoning! The jumping competition - just asking her to slip in the mud and break her bones!! Pushing the boulder - a chance for her to be crushed to death by a rock?! This must be a last ditch effort to end her. But they underestimated her. She was too smart.

She couldn't let them know that she knew. She had to finish their game. Team Mushroom had to win to show them that she was the best!! She'd win them over to her side with her amazing skills and together they could win back her home!! With renewed fire, she continued.

Not even ten feet away from her epiphany sat a rotten stump with mushrooms sprouting out at all sides. She stared at it in awe.

"THE MOTHERFATHER HAS SHOWN ME A SIGN" she howled. She gathered some mushrooms, gave the stump a reverent pat, and left in a hurry. She had badgers to win over to the side of the light!!!

After sprinting the rest of the way along the trail, Tricks saw one of her future allies waiting for her next to a towering obelisk. Did they always glow like that?

"I'M HERE!" she shouted, huffing and puffing at the Totoma's hooves. "I have won! Tell me what's next, and I'll show you that I can do that too!!!"
"Hold this image in your mind and walk through the Obelisk," the totoma instructs. "It is possible to get lost. As long as you keep the rock piles in mind, you should reach your intended destination. But if you don't...we have no idea what will happen to you. Once you reach the other side, you must follow the yellow rocks upward and retrieve an item you will find at the top of the mountain. Be careful; the top of the mountain is covered in snow and ice."
Tricks stared at them. Then at the obelisk. Then back at them.

"What?"

Stepping into the obelisk was incredibly weird. One moment she was next to the Totoma, arching a leg into the void, and the next moment she was just... here. Everything was fluctuating between black as night and too bright saturated waves of color. Endless trees stretched ahead of her, but from above. She couldn't see the sky, only dark shadowy branches and bright green leaves.

She took a deep breath and started to walk, picturing the rock formations and eyeing the fluffy treetops above her. "I never want to hear that my booth was stressful again," she grumbled.

"It was pretty awful though, wasn't it?" a voice laughed next to her.

Tricks gaped as her look-alike laughed and ran energetic circles around her. She shook her head and continued. "Not reeeal. Rocks. Rocks are great. Piles of rocks are even greater."

"Gosh do you remember how many kin got stung by bees? Some EVERY DAY!? Hahaha how does that even happen??"

"Hahaha right? Some folks are just so unlucky!" Tricks cackled before shaking her head. "But hey if we want that to happen again, I need to get through this crazy place!"

She turned to address her copy, only to notice that she was smaller now. Younger. And cradling a small creature.

"Do you remember our best friend?" her younger self whispered to her. "Where is she?"

Tricks scoffed and turned away with a scowl. "I'M GOING TO FIX EVERYTHING!" she shouted, stomping away. "SO SHUT UP AND LET ME THINK OF ROCKS!"

She had to get to this place. Finish this. Win the game. Win the war. Get her stump. Get her friend.

She let out a yelp when her hoof hit something cold and slippery and she went tumbling into snow. She quickly popped back up to her feet and gaped at the snow and mountains and fog.

"WHAT?"

"Wow this is terrible," Tricks stared at the path ahead of her. Definitely another attempt to kill her. She'd show them!! Those badgers were going to think she was so cool. She had to spend a few moments hyping herself up. Nothing was scary if you believed in yourself enough!! "I'm just going to climb this mountain" she started to talk to herself as she carefully attempted to scale the steep rock, her hooves skittering along the surface before finding a foothold. "and get whatever is up there and then come back and then they'll all say 'Wooow Tricks you're so amazing!'" She slipped once before regaining her footing. "' We'll follow you to the ends of the wooorld' and I'll say 'Hmm let me think about it.'"

She made it up the rock face and let out a loud whoop. "I'M AMAZING. THIS MOUNTAIN IS NOTHING." And then she spotted the next yellow-stained rock and groaned. So many boulders. She definitely couldn't push these, but she was small and nimble. She could definitely scramble over them. Her teeth were beginning to chatter from the cold, so the faster she did this the better. She ran at the first boulder and leapt high. She managed to get her front legs hooked over the top and shimmied her way into a dignified starfish position atop the first boulder. She huffed and puffed and shouted "TEAM MUSHROOM!!" before attempting to jump to the next one.

She had made it through the rockfall, but had done a bit too much boulder bellyflopping and was feeling pretty bruised. "JUST" she huffed. "JUST A SCRATCH"

She took some time to get her wits about her and catch her breath, because the yellow-painted rocks were leading her along the very top of this forsaken mountain. A thin, sharp trail that required balance she didn't know she possessed at this point. And then she'd have to do it all again to get back... oh what had she gotten herself into.. No, no she could do it!

"I'm an amaaaazing mountain climBERRrrrrrrr who will not faaAAALL" she sang off-key as she tip-toed along the mountain's spine.

She WAS an amazing mountain climber who didn't fall! It was easier than she expected to get to the tip of the mountain. She eyed the pile of goodies that awaited her. It looked like she was the first to get here judging by the size of the pile. She could just... take everything.... But it would probably be difficult to carry it all back. She sighed, tucking a quartz crystal and two apples into the knotted vines that she was covered in. She bit into a third apple to regain some strength. She stared back at the path she'd have to traverse again to return to her swamp and sighed. She needed motivation to continue.

"Think of winning," she hissed around apple pieces. "Think of winning and showing them all!! Think of getting them back for what they did to you!!!! Those TERRIBLE KIN"

She yelled the last two words out into the sky and then picked herself up with a huff. She'd show everyone. The Badgers would totally help her too. It was all coming together. She started to trek back, tiptoeing over the spine once more.

She was an Acha on a mission. She crossed the mountain spine with ease and grace.

With each step she exhaled the name of a kin that had did her wrong. "Peeve," Another step. "Pigweed," Another. "Remember Death,"

She wondered if they thought about how they betrayed her. She hoped they felt bad. In fact, she hoped they were having a TERRIBLE TIME. Just like she was having. Right now. Going over these boulders for the second time.

But again, she was able to do it with a lot more ease than the first round. She really WAS amazing, hopping from boulder to boulder. Not a starfish, but a regal stork with impeccable balance. "Yeeeeees!"

Now all she had to do was scramble back down the rockface. The rock was still just as slippery as before, so she slowly and carefully started to slither down, bottom first.

"This is fiiiiiiine. Almost there."

The howling wind and bitter cold was eating into her bones, but she did it! She had made it back to the obelisk. She'd done something she never thought she could - twice! She felt strangely lighter after the journey. Shouting her problems into the mountain air seemed pretty cathartic.

Now she was about to go through this cursed giant rock again. But just like the mountain trial, this had to be easier the second time around... right? She started up her tune again, but with new lyrics.

"I am an amaziiiiing OBELIiiiisk TRAAAVELEEEERRR! Nothing bad is going to happeeeen to meeEEEEE, " She walked through.

The strange insides of the obelisk weren't so scary the second time around. The upside down trees were gone, replaced with floating stones. She had just spent hours hopping across stones so this was easy!

"I" hop "am" skip "so" jump "amazing!"

She had done so much during this trip! Ran a lot, saved a rabbit, vanquished an alligator, uncovered an evil plot, travelled through an obelisk, climbed a terrible mountain, aired out some festering trauma, got some apples, and now she was going back through the obelisk! She had thought this would just be running a race. As she said multiple times to everyone she encountered this week - she was really good at running. But for once she wasn't running away, but towards something! Towards a goal.

"REVENGE!!HAHAHAA!" she cackled as she neared the end of the stone path.

But then, off to the side. She saw him. The Acha that often visited her in her dreams.

"What are you doing here?" she gasped. "Am I sleeping now?"

"Nooo," the colorful Acha whispered. One small eye staring at her. "You are here, in my home."

"Oh, that's weird," Tricks laughed as she continued to walk. "I didn't know you lived here!"

The Acha blinked in front of her. "I do. You can stay here too."

"Maybe next time! I need to go give a crystal to a badger to make him work for me," Tricks had looked away for a moment to make sure she was on the right path. When she looked back at her dreamy rainbow pal - there were suddenly more of him. "Um."

"STAAAAY!!!" They shrieked together, suddenly sprouting wings and lunging for her.

Then she was running again. "THIS IS NOT OKAY!" she shouted back to the swarm. "YOU ARE NEVER INVITED TO MY DREAMS AGAIN"

They screamed in unison and bit at her ankles, but she couldn't look back.

Her eyes remained on the trail as she kept the picture of the cursed Badger booth in her mind.

Swamp swamp swamp. Dumb Badgers - er allies. Friends. Mushroom! TEAM MUSHROOM!!

"MUSHROOOOOM!" she screamed as she felt the sudden shift and mud beneath her hooves.

She WAS BACK.
The totoma greets you when you pop out the other side. Compared to the frigid mountain, it's positively balmy here. "Did you find the item? Ah, yes, good. Get some rest for today, and come back here tomorrow for the next event." They look up at the Obelisk. "You won't need to do that again, I assure you." Resting restores 20 HP.
Tricks drops the crystal and flops to the ground at the Totoma's feet. "I did it. Now you HAVE TO LIKE ME," she whined from the dirt.

Tricks woke up at the edge of the fishing pond and grimaced at the taste of fish on her tongue. She had something she had to do today but she wasn't quite sure wh - "AHHHH!" she screamed, sending the fishing kin around her jumping in surprise. "BADGERS"

She rolled to her feet and sprinted off, pushing kin out of her way.
You return to the Obelisk the next day as requested and the totoma sends you down a straight path that leads to a large lake with an island in the middle. Earthclaw waits there with a faraway smile. He looks up as you approach.
Tricks eyeballed the badger and obelisk with suspicion. "I'm back! " she announced. "Ready to beat anything you throw at me! Because I'm strong!!" she puffed herself up in a measly attempt to match the Totoma's height. She was sure he was very impressed.
"Your first event for today is to swim over to that island there. Once you're there, someone else will be waiting to give you further instructions." The island isn't super far away, but the water is freezing cold and choppy. You look across and you can see figures moving around and a bonfire on the beach.
"Uuugh... swimming?" Tricks groaned. It was cold! But if the badgers valued swimming... "Okay okay this'll be easy!"

She darted towards the edge of the shore and looked back at Earthclaw.

"WATCH ME, BADGER! AND BE AMAZED!" She dove in.

The water was freezing and had her gasping and treading in place for a few seconds. A bird apparently mistook her for a place to rest and landed atop her bark mask, sending her head to the side. "AGH GET OFF!" She shook her head back and forth and sent the gull flying before she started to swim forward. This was fine.

She was swimming at a decent pace until something touched her. "WHAT" She paused to shake her legs out and yelped when she felt a nip at her ankles. "NOOooooooooooooooo" She zoomed forward, powered by pure adrenaline, a green and yellow blur in the water. Another attempt on her life! She should've been more prepared.

After her ankles were free from whatever was trying to eat them, she encountered an obstacle. A floating log bobbed ahead of her. She could probably go around it but....

"OUTTA MY WAY, LOG" she shouted, bursting forward to brute force it out of her way. "THERE ARE NO DETOURS ON THE PATH TO JUSTICE"

The log did not appreciate her sass. The force of it being pushed away sent a wave of water over her.
She broke the surface with a sputtering cough. "AGH"

She had almost made it to shore when her leg got caught in some seaweed and pulled her under a bit. She kicked and kicked and managed to get loose only after swallowing some water. She flopped to shore and soaked Nobody's Darling with a fountain of water from her mouth.

"THAT WAS TERRIBLE!" she rasped before settling in front of the fire. She pulled her two remaining soggy apples and chomped on them in front of the flames.

But she couldn't rest for long, she had things to do!! Badgers to win over to her side and service! She followed the path to the top of a cliff and stared at the Acha.

"What's next?" she asked. "I'm READY!"
"You have two choices," he says. "You can either go back down to the beach and swim back to the shore the same way you arrived, or you can give this wondrous gliding thing a try."
"...Gliding thing?" she stares at it. "YOU MEAN I COULD FLY?" she screeches. Flying would be SO USEFUL. Imagine an attack from above? She'd be unstoppable!!

"I'LL DO IT!" She just wouldn't tell the Acha that she was going to steal this contraption if it worked.

She was already covered in vines, so having some more tied to her wasn't so bad. The sticks and skins were a cool touch. A running jump she could totally do too.

Once everything was set up, she took a deep breath and started running.

"TEAM!!"

She made it to the edge and took a mighty leap.

"MUSHROOOOOOOM!!!"

She was flying!! She was flying! Until she wasn't.

"AHHHH!" she screamed as she dropped into the water after just a few amazing seconds of gliding. She blinked under the water, taking stock of how many appendages she still had - 4 okay she was good - before rising to the surface. Talk about a rush! She was energized and ready to finish the trip back.

She kept swimming until another obstacle stood in her way. Or well... swam in her way. A bass was just there?!

"OUTTA MY WAY FISH!" she shouted. "THESE ARE MY WATERS TODAY!"

She smacked the bass out of her way and then let out a howl. "MY LEG!" she screeched.

Did the bass do that?! Were the fish working with them too? Nowhere was safe.

Despite the leg cramp and evil fish of this cursed lake, she had made it to shore!
"Congratulations!" Earthclaw smiles at you. "You have completed these four challenges! Don't forget to come back to the booth later for the rewards of the day." With no further ceremony, you are apparently dismissed to make your way all the way back across the swamp to the Winter Market.
Tricks kept shooting Earthclaw withering glares over her shoulder as she stomped her tired body back down the trail.

"I EXPECT AT LEAST THREE REWARDS!" she shouted randomly with one glare. She stomped a few more feet before turning again. "AND YOUR UNDYING LOYALTY!"

She grumbled all the way back to the winter market.
