[B] Forgive me for dreaming (Dream a Little Dream & Distant Tidings)

Post by Lirilei »

Image Dream had met Forgives by chance, and he was immediately enamored with the tiny totoma who didn't seem to know how to be anything but sweet and kind. She was like a dream come true in a way, and spending time with her had been like a breath of fresh air after a stretch of stagnancy.

So to learn that she was pregnant, had him thrilled beyond words, and ready to set out to find someone to bless the life she carried. With suggestions from family on what or who to look for, he set off with a small offering being taken along. It wasn't much, but it was a stone he'd found not long after meeting Forgives, that reminded him of her with it's subtle green and pink hues. He carried it carefully between his teeth as he set off, promising her he'd return as quickly as possible.

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... ncert2.png[/imgright]Someone to bless the life she carried? The little green snake wouldn't know a thing about that sort of business.

Why would it? It was just a little green snake, perfectly ordinary.

The little green snake uncoiled from its sunny patch, and slithered towards the buck for the express purpose of inspecting the stone he held between his teeth. After all, it was - as had been made abundantly clear - green, too. And, if you squinted, maybe a little bit pink.

(It was cream.)

Stopping at his hooves, the little green snake stretched upwards as far as it could (which was not very far), flaring its unusual little neckfrill (just a tad) as it peered well as it could see from here at the buck's treasure, tongue flicking curiously.

Dream had come across many snakes during his lifetime and not a one had behaved in a way like this one had and it was more than a little disconcerting for him at first.

Who wouldn't be surprised and maybe a little concerned by a snake suddenly at their hooves? To his credit he didn't jerk away, or even shuffle his hooves, though he lost his hold on the rock and it bounced to a rest not far. "Oops..."

He sighed and shifted a little then, a quiet "Just...need to..." as he started to slowly inch a hoof near the rock with the intention of sliding it back towards him. Dream just didn't want to agitate the unusual snake after all.

Nuh-uh. Uh uh uh.

It wasn't going to be that easy.

The little green snake flicked its tongue again, more irritably than curious this time, and slithered with intent towards the fallen stone.

Wow, little green snakes could slither fast as anything.

It turned its little head (with that strange neckfrill) to look at the buck once it reached the stone, then very - so it seemed - deliberately wrapped its tail around it.

Then, it looked back down to peer closely at his treasure.

Of course it wasn't that easy.

Dream let out a low sigh as the (now apparently ticked off) snake wrapped it's tail around the stone. Crap.

"I uh....mister snake... miss snake...." what did he call the snake? "Can I get my rock back please? I need it, to give it as a gift you see. It's very important. I have this doe waiting for me..."

Was he about to tell this snake all about it? Oh yes.

"...and well she's expecting, and I need that stone, so I can get a blessing." and now, he was staring forlornly at the stone he no longer could get. "....guess I have to find something else, instead of the stone that reminds me of her..." he let out a deep sigh.

"I hope the rock makes you as happy as Forgives makes me little snake." he was following the totoma's lead here, and not letting it get to him (too much) that he'd dropped the rock, and it'd been snake claimed. He'd just have to find something else. Quickly.

The little green snake slowly looked up as he finished his speech, to stare at him in disgust.

Well, as much as a tiny snake could convey meaningful emotion on its face, at least. It was hard to tell.

Perhaps it wasn't disgust. Perhaps it was just indigestion.

It bared its little snake fangs, and very pointedly hissed.

(Maybe it really was disgust.)

Then it slid off the stone, flicking (more like nudging, just barely, it was hard for a little snake) it aside with the tip of its tail as it slithered.

Who even wanted that stupid old stone? Anything so easily given up couldn't be worth much. It wasn't the slightest bit interested in it anymore.

It didn't look anything like its colours, anyway.

Hmph.

Dream looked at the snake staring at him oddly, at the hiss which made him take a step back in surprise.

"Uhm..."

he shifted a little as he stared at the snake and tentatively moved to collect the stone.

"Thank you for moving little snake. I need this to give to someone I'm looking for. It's very important you see."

The snake probably didn't understand, but that was okay. He used a hoof to carefully drag the rock back towards him while thinking outloud. "Now, I need to find the kin I was told to give this to." he stared at the snake a moment longer. "Too bad you can't talk, I could ask you where to find a legendary." he sighed and picked up the rock again carefully.

@Jun (hah it's okay! This is hilarious!)

Yep, there was no way a little green snake could talk, nor know where to find a Legendary.

What's that? No clue.

Instead, the snake, having lost all interest in the stone, started to slither towards the buck's hooves once more. It seemed intent on hitching a ride, and might twine up a limb if it could.

Perhaps it wanted in on this Legendary journey. Maybe that sounded more interesting than this rock had been.

The snake was....wrapping around his leg. Why? Why!?

He resisted the urge to stomp his hooves to dislodge the snake, not wanting to chance pissing it off, or scaring it and getting bitten.

Breathing in a few times as the snake did it's thing, he groaned a little. "I'm going to have an interesting story to tell when I get back to Forgives..." he gave a soft laugh as he thought about how she probably wouldn't believe him. It was so far fetched!

"Interesting story to tell to whatever kids we have too..." he mused a little around his rock. "Hopefully, they all end up with unexpected adventures as they grow up." well why not? An unexpected adventure was a good story for later after all!

Encountering no resistance, the little green snake slithered all the way up onto the buck's back. It coiled up, making itself comfy, then flicked its tongue, hissed a little, and tapped the tip of its tail against his rump, as if to say:

Well, go on then. Go find a Legendary already.

Very demanding snake.

"You're an odd little snake aren't you?" the words were muddled due to the rock he was carrying, but he did begin to walk, wondering where in the world a legendary was. Of course not knowing he had one curled up on his back, enjoying Dream hauling him around like he was.

Still, he plodded onward, forgetting after a time the odd passenger he'd picked up, and mostly lost in thought as he walked.

The little snake paid no mind to neither his words, nor his silence, stretching its jaws for a moment in a semblance of a yawn, before dropping its head into the pile of itself. It drowsed, just like that, on the ambling buck's back, comfortably coiled and seemingly insensate to the passage of time.

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright]Until the trees around them began to change, and then it lifted its little head to peer around at the tenor of the leaves.

All of a sudden, the snake tightened, and flung itself from the buck's back - but - oh - before it hit the ground in an ungainly spiral of snake, it had spun into an Acha stag, daintily landing on his hooves instead.

"Alright then," he chirped, tossing his head, his bright eyes streaming light, "here's my stop!"

He craned his head and neck some to see the little snake curled up on him sleeping and he shook his head a little, not sure what else he could do.

The idea of just bucking it off felt wrong.

So he just went on his merry little way.

That was until he felt the snake shifting, moving, and...jumping? He was worried for a moment it was launching it's self at him and he half ducked his head.

Couldn't have the snake hitting him in the back of the head after all!

Needless to say he was stunned when he heard talking and saw an acha there instead, the rock once more tumbling from his mouth with a surprised "What!?" from him as he stared in confusion a moment.

"But I....and the snake.... you?" clearly, his first experience with a legendary. A story to tell time and again, really! Distant had probably done him a favor with his shenanigans at this point.

"Did me a real favour, you did," the Acha continued, craning his head to check out the lay of his intended path, "would've taken me hours to get here as a snake - if not days. Thank you kindly for that!"

The fact that he could've traveled here as a Kin notwithstanding.

"And don't worry about your kids," he turned to toss off a parting nod, "they've been properly blessed and all that. Very comfortable journey. Gave me a lot of time to leisurely compose a plea."

Dream stood there sort of slack jawed for a few moments longer, before snapping out of his surprise.

"Oh, yeah. Sure, it's no problem. Happy to help." the idea the other could have changed forms was trying to take hold in his head but he shook it off.

"Thank you!" he cried out in joy, before he was stepping forward to pick up the rock and lay it at the others hooves. "That's a gift, for you. It reminds me of Forgives. Very close to her in color, and I'd like you to have it."

He looked the way he'd come from, and back to Distant. "I should get back now. Thank you again!"
