[BLESS] More Raindrops (Unfurling Rain x Albatross)

Post by anemosagkelos »

The buck was happy, if not a little bemused, that he was to become a father. He wondered what they would look like. Their mother and he were so very different in looks, he could never quite manage an idea.

Unlike her, he wasn't particularly worried about their survival. He was far more concerned about futures of loneliness or heartache. Perhaps, he simply had a more melancholy soul. Still, he'd gone to seek out someone to help and then he had realized he really had no knowledge of how to do so. And then a crack of lightning had forced him to take refuge underneath a carved out rock. He doubted he would find someone here.

Albatross hit the rock with the sharp edge of her beak.

He didn't think much of it at first. He didn't think much of it a second time. But the third. . .

It was too rhythmic to be nothing. Rain wouldn't sound like that and it wasn't the season for winter. He frowned.

"Hello?"

Peck peck peck

Albatross paused.

And resumed her pecking. Surely he would come out by now. After all, he was sitting in her spot.

He pulled himself out and looked around. A crane was all that greeted him and he didn't know if that was a blessing or a curse.

"I don't suppo--" the words caught in his throat. Cranes didn't have such bright piercing eyes, did they?

Albatross stared at the buck and decided that he wasn't prey. This was not the time to be scaring some low hanging fruit. it seemed like he had another worries on his shoulders anyway, his pace decidedly heavy and the look between his brows whispered downtrodden mess.

And so she shifted. Her full form and much larger, she was precariously close to crushing him. She didn't move from her staring spot and continued to stare.

That answered his own question, then. Cranes did not have such piercing eyes but the Motherfather's chosen did. And he was torn between joy and horror.

He was rather stuck, regardless of emotion, and decided it would be best to get to the point, "Hello, I am expecting children and their mother wishes to have a blessing."

This form was a lot more useful for words. Shaking her head of the feathers in her brain, she adjusted to this four legged form and thought on her words. She understood what he was asking from the get go given his obstinance on sticking to her side even though she pecked at him incessantly. He was certainly steady and stalwart. That would be a good thing to wish for his brood. It was good to take on challenges as they came and not back down. She could bless him with several things. So often offsprings were a chance for the parents to fix what they had or offered them a chance to become something more. Within reason of course. And with little colts and fillies running around the swamp, Albatross hoped they wish for nothing.

"A blessing." She let that word stretch out in the silence. Blessings were serious or sometimes easy and on the fly. But any buck who took that many pecks caught her attention.

"Your brood will be confident in their decision making once they settle on a path. They will approach each challenge with enthusiasm and careful inspection. They will lead fine, albeit interesting lives."

A hum vibrated in his throat and he nodded, agreement perhaps or maybe only listening, it was hard to tell. His face was so stoic when others spoke. Or maybe only now, when it was a Legendary. He'd never met the Motherfather's chosen.

"A fine life is good enough for most of us. We can't all be special, like you, or else we would not recognize that you are special," he mused, content. "Thank you," he bowed his head and then smiled.

She was likely done with him, now, and he didn't see any need to linger. He should head towards the doe anyway, to let her know.

That was a pragmatic approach to life. The buck had a good head on his shoulders. He was grounded instead of living up in the clouds in the realm of fantasy. Not that the swamp was without its magic. A good deed done for the day, Albatross shifted back and moved towards the watery temptations. Perhaps she could find a school of fish and devour them. It was a good way to pass the time and she was sure to encounter families and some feisty fish. It was nice when they fought back. It would be a game of catch and release, she wasn't peckish. Not after seeing that buck. Ha!

Maybe she would get lucky and have her own family again some day. It's been a while since she had little ones running around. But that was a lifetime ago and she had much more to explore. They could slow her down. Perhaps during the off seasons like winter. Yes, she'll plan it around winter when the swamp slows down and the nights are long with stories and fur around the campfire.
