[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]Banquet journeyed across an increasingly bleaker landscape, the sky grey, the leaves beginning to drop, the once-vibrant green paling. She navigated between the edges of claimed lands, until at last she arrived at the edge of another group who valued the pitiless change of fortune and the cycle of the seasons.
She was a pale and dusty pink, her horns and hooves chipped, and although her fur looked dark with bloodstains she had hardly any scent at all.

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright]King was in charge of the Fairy Court for the bleak seasons of Autumn and Winter, and though Autumn brought with it a bounty of harvest and feast, so too did it bring the need to store and stow, to cease the endless array of partying and hedonism and slope off towards rationing and conserving energy. It did not make him or his closest advisors well liked at this time of year, bringing and end to the plentiful months. Rules were to be enforced and freedoms curtailed. Some of the land's inhabitants flitted off to other climes till the spring returned to break the frosts. He remained.
His antlers this time of year were festooned with a brilliant array of golden, yellow and red leaves which rustled as he moved, a brilliant halo that stood out against his indigo fur.
He patrolled because he could, and because he could not roam as freely as he had. He didn't expect to meet anyone, but sometimes things simply worked out how they would.
"Hail there traveller." he said. "What is your story?"

Banquet tilted her head very slightly, listening. Then, slowly and carefully, she drew closer and closer, until she was very near, and she turned her head to have her lips at his ear.
"Hail, King," she whispered, so that only he could hear, "I have come to bring you news."

If there was something that King was good at, it was listening, and he always found himself most drawn in by those with quiet voices. Sometimes it was the voices that no one else deigned to listen to that had the most telling things to talk about. King could be loud but he could also be startlingly, relentlessly quiet.
"You have my ear." he said, curling his tail.
