[B] Go with the flow (Water & Breach)

Post by Lirilei »

Image Water had been beyond pleased to learn she was expecting, mostly because she'd come to care about Deeper and Shallow immensely. The pair had gone from being helpful to her during a time of need into some of her best friends, and so she was more than happy to help them grow their family. She saw how they doted on the kids they'd found as eggs and raised. But she knew the bucks yearned for more kids, and both of them being bucks made that a particularly difficult feat to be sure.

So now here she was expecting, not that they were aware, this was all a surprise. Now, she was following an urge. She was looking, searching. She wanted to get everything taken care of before surprising the pair with her big news.

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright] The mare hesitated at the need that she knew needed an answer. She assumed she was the closest but she didn't want to leave this place yet. She'd found them and--she sighed. She had to introduce them to the world as some point for she'd never be able to hide them. Not now.

She turned and took off at an unexpected run, not really knowing if the whale sharks would follow her or not. They weren't quite trained though these two had seemed to bond to her relatively quickly. It wasn't until she was cantering through that she considered how terrifying it might look to whoever needed a blessing.

She could have stopped but she didn't. A snake would have gone too slow and she wasn't completely sure that the rugged toothy type wouldn't try to eat her first. That was still to be tested and she wasn't keen to test it now. Showing up with a new critter hanging from her throat would be far more terrifying surely than a mare running towards someone. Probably. Right?

Water was loathe to leave the shoreline she was walking along. She knew the water and sand well at this point and found comfort in it. Still, she finally turned away from the water and began to walk, the sound of the water fading to silence before long, and she breathed in and out a few times. It'd been some time since she'd started to call the area home.

Still, she was up for a little adventure before any traveling around got to be too difficult, and it felt like an adventure when she spotted a tall figure running her direction after a time with something following it. She couldn't tell who or what was running at her just yet, or what they were being chased by, but she didn't hesitate to find a stick and hold it tightly in her teeth.

Running like that, could only mean there was danger, right?  Water could finally make out it was a mare, but she still couldn't figure out what was trailing behind, and if they were a danger or not, so she stepped to the side a little not to be in the mare's way, but otherwise held her ground, ready to help!

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright][imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright]She hadn't expected the kin to be that close or maybe she'd run a lot further than she thought. Distance and time tended to blur, assuming she had ever really had a grasp on either concept to begin with. Time did not matter as much amongst the sea as it did to those on land. There were things one learned: dawn and dusk yielded the most fish but also increased the competing predators, never drink the water's salt, and never take a day's meal for granted. Otherwise, it was as you pleased when you lived near the ocean. Or so it was for her. Until she'd found them and—Breach skidded to a halt, hooves slicing down into the sand.

It was the adrenaline that made her heart fly into her throat, at least that was her excuse as panic flared and she forgot herself. Literally. One moment, a mare was wildly trying to stop. The next, a watersnake was lying on top of the sand. Its tongue flicked as it curled around itself. And then the mare was, almost there. A half-seen shade of her, anyway, as it stood over the similarly colored reptile. The shade stared, then flickered out, and then the watersnake vanished to leave a full-blooded mare in its place.

"I wasn't sure if I would slow down fast enough," she apologized, slightly sheepish. Around her hooves, the whale sharks floated as the green one searched for the snake that had been there.

To say she was surprised would be an understatement, but she was. So much so she dropped the piece of wood in her mouth to the ground, and stood there slack jawed a moment as she watched the show before her, the mare turning to snake, the ghost of a mare, followed by her, herself. "Wow..." the word was breathed, and she gave a soft laugh.

"That was something. Never seen anything like that. You okay? That was an abrupt stop." and some on the fly shape shifting (is that what it was? She didn't know!), as well. So best to make sure the other was alright, really.

Water peered curiously at the two creatures and there a tentative "They're not dangerous are they? Not chasing you? I thought that's why you were running..."

"It's," she considered, "it can be advantageous." That seemed the polite term because it could be a nuisance and, even occasionally, a detriment. Then again, so was any stage of life. This one just had more flare.

She looked down to the two whale sharks and snorted, "Not to us. That one," she raised a hoof and hovered it over the brown creature, "Seacat, doesn't have any teeth. The other one, Oceansnake, does but it only attacks things its size or smaller. They're a new discovery I found and I'm still trying to figure them out." The last bit came out a touch sheepish; she had never been a scholar and this was extremely new territory, this role of founder and knowledge that was otherwise unknown.

"But, no," she shook her head, "I was coming to see you. I thought you were further away or maybe I run faster now." She did feel as she had longer legs but she wasn't sure that was true. She wondered if anyone had ever looked at that. Could one shrink after being chosen? In the kin body, she meant, not the familiar one. She wrinkled her nose and tried to banish this new found line of questions. It wasn't important. At least not now.

"Are you very far along?" she questioned; she never could seem to tell. Not by looks and need never meant much either. Some liked to come before they even found a mate!

"Oh, well that's good then. I'm glad you're not hurt." well injuries could happen easily after all. Water shifted a little, listening to the mare talk about her two companions and she gave a nod of understanding then. "That explains why the one is looking where you were moments ago then."

"Well you did seem to be running pretty fast, as far as I could tell, anyhow." she had been covering the distance quickly, hence Water thinking danger!

The question though made her thoughtful. "I'm not entirely sure, pretty far I think though. This is my first time so I don't know how to tell, and well...my closest companions are two bucks so they're not any help with that either." there was a sheepish note from her as she admitted to not knowing. This was all a learning experience for her, and for her friends, really.

She eyed the toothed whale shark and hummed in agreement, "As long as it doesn't learn that I am the snake. I wouldn't want to have to defend myself." And in that moment, even as friendly and beautiful as she was, it was a reminder that this was a harsh environment. Defense was not a foreign concept by any means. Out here, even the kindest would eventually have to harm someone or something.

"It depends on your body, a lot," Breach reassured the doe with a smile. "Everyone can tell when my mother is pregnant, but few could tell when I was. Even after giving birth to the sacs, I didn't seem to change though I must have." It was a conundrum and one she didn't think much on. In all honesty, she wasn't sure she'd ever have more children. Often times she considered them less hers and more like an odd sibling. In many ways, they all had the same mother even if by blood all their mothers were different. Family could be given but it could also be made.

"What would you like for them?" she asked, not yet sure what the doe and the bucks might be most in need of. She'd not raised her children but she had a feeling this family would.

"Then here's hoping it doesn't ever figure that out. Be a shame to lose it, when you said you recently discovered it." had to mean they were rare or something right? Or maybe just not easily found. She wasn't real sure, but she could only imagine it would be hard to have to defend herself, and kill it in the end.

"Does it? Oh that's good. I'll just pay close attention, so I have an idea in case I ever have more." it was the smart way to go about it in the end. This was a learning experience really.

There was a smile at the question though and while she hadn't really thought about it, it was easy to decide. "The bucks who will be raising them...they're so happy with life and the kids they already have, they love them so much. I hope that they know that sort of happiness and love for themselves as they grow. To find what, or who brings them that joy and feeling of love."

That was a tall order, she thought as she considered all the doe had said. It wasn't hard but it was important. She nodded, thoughtful, for a moment before focusing on the doe.

"Your children will be loved and love fiercely in return, they shall take nothing for granted and happiness will be their most frequent friend. They will grow and never mistake blood for family," she declared, voice soft but firm. That seemed to fit what was being sought and she hummed, content with her choice.

"Is there anything else you need?"

Water listened intently to the mare and she gave a bright laugh.

"That sounds great, thank you!" oh it sounded absolutely wonderful, and she couldn't wait to tell Deeper and Shallow Waters what she'd just heard.

"If you don't mind me asking you a few questions about pregnancy, and that sort of thing? I don't really have any does to talk to and..."

(thank you! Assume she's going to talk to Breach for a little bit asking questions before thanking her again, and wishing her well)
