[PRP]Unknown Herbs (Taking in Sunlight x Inferno of the Sea)

Post by Hibiscus Mist »

The plains were vast but oh so known to her. She'd run along the boarders for hours of the days, exploring almost every little snake hole and gopher mound she came across. Her hooves even carried her to the rolling hills, and the few little caves within them, her head peeking in long enough to satisfy her curiosity of the differences in the dark places.

The one place she really wanted to go however, was the swamp. From afar, she could see kin of all kind come and go, yet she did not. She stayed where she was and wandered elsewhere, but always returned to the same hill to watch those kin enter and leave. Each time she grew just a little more curious, and then just a little braver. She moved closer to the swamp until her hooves finally squished down into the mud.

She looked down, awed at the fact she was finally one of those kin entering the swamp at last. And then she began to prance. With her head held proudly high, she strode through the mud and puddles to look over every little thing, moving faster as she went along. Soon she was running, ignorant of the dangers that could be found. She hadnt stopped to ask after all, she was simply curious and interested in what the swamp held.

Curiosity, however, did not feed a hungry belly. Her gallop slowed to a trot slowed to a walk as she breathed in the new smells and looked at her new surroundings. It was so strange! Warm in a way the fields of flatland werent and ... sweet? Something smelled sweet and tasty. Her tongue reached out to lick her lips and she began to sniff about, eyes glittering as she found the source.

A small grouping of sweet smelling flowers thst looked just right for munching on. The leaves were a bit spikey and there was a tiny spider making a web but that didnt change the fact she was hungry and they looked delicious.

"Time to get in my belly there little flowers!" She drummed her hooves excitedly as she thought about her first meal in the swamp, mouth opening to take a bite out of the little cream colored flower group.

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]The day was perfect. The sun was bright and watery, a cooler winter sun. It hung high in the sky, a soft blue sky knitted with long wispy clouds just visible through the lightly dancing canopy above. Taking in Sunlight took in a deep breath of cool crisp air and exhaled a happy sigh. He loved this time of year. So many new plants were coming to light, herbs and flowers, nuts, and berries.

He was meandering about the border between the swamp and the western plains, lifting branches, checking in on new sprouts and saplings as he went. It was such a lovely, quiet day. That is until he heard hooves nearby. His ears pricked forward and curiosity swept over him.

"Who's there?" He asked quietly, more to himself than anyone else.

He followed their hoof steps, his interest growing with each snapped twig and loud giggle. They weren't very quiet, he noted. As he broke through the brush line and saw her, he also noted that they were very beautiful. But this note was quickly shoved aside when he noticed her pretty mouth about to munch some equally pretty, but hopefully far less deadly, flowers.

"WAIT! NO!" He cried with a gasp, bolting out of the brush and to her side, his eyes wide with panic and his heart beating in his ears.

"Oh!" Hearing the voice, she straightened up, unknowingly saving herself from the danger she was about to eat. Her hooves cam danverously close to squashing the plant she had been about to eat. "A Kimeti! I've heard stories!" Her tail wagged, and she seemed to spend a moment just to look at him.

She was a Kio that took in a lot of details, like how her colors shifted when she ran or how many times a bird would hop before it took off. Taking in his details... "did you want something...mister?" She guessed this was a male. Females were smaller it seemed from her watching before, or at least she assumed they would be smaller. Inferno wasnt very sure about that, and it left her tilting her head. "I've never seen a kin like you before! Do you really have three horns?" She stepped away from the plant, smiling in warmth as it was temporarily forgotten.

Observant as she was, the Kiokote was also a bit scatterbrained. She felt content with her mind wandering here and there and only worried when the time for worry came. "What's your name? I'm Inferno of the Sea! Call me what you like though!" She offered a sweet smile as she stopped before the male, tail still wagging happily.

He stood before her, his chest heaving with panicked breaths, his bright eyes wide and flashing. As she pulled back, he slumped onto his haunches and sighed dramatically, visibly relieved. His long, thickly furred tail twitched upon the grass.

"What a relief, you really had me worried there," He sighed,  trying to calm himself, "That there is foxglove, highly poisonous! It would stop your heart dead, if you ate it, yes it would!"

"Ah," He shook himself and took her in, breathing in this vibrant doe that stood before him, "My apologies, my lady," He said this with a chuckle and a sheepish grin, "My name is Taking in Sunlight, if you will. A pleasure, I assure you, now that you haven't eaten the cursed thing."

He watched her as the words and questions tumbled from her lips. She was striking, so brightly colored with markings that almost seemed to pulse with vibrancy. It astounded him, how bright and shining someone who had just moments before been so close to death could be. It bubbled up within him and soon, the sunset buck found himself laughing.

"Yes, I do! You may count them, if you'd like. And why, so do you! Although very different types, of course," Her voice was catching, pleasant. Like sunlight on dew drops, "You are a Kiokote, are you not? A moor-runner. You do not have the scent of the Swamp on you yet, have you just come in?"

"Yes! I finally came in after so long of looking! The swamp is so interesting, and i've never seen so many of these things or kin before... i'm excited to be here!" She started to move, walking circles as she talked. "Thank you for stopping me, i like being being alive but i dont like being hungry... is there anything to eat around here that's safe?"

When she stopped again, it was at Sunlight's side, her shoulder brushing against him as she looked his way. She was soon distracted again however by a bird that landed where she once about to eat a toxic plant. Her hooves squished slightly as she drummed them excitedly and watched the bird do whatever it was hopping about for.

"I like birds. They look like kin sometimes! So pretty and different." Her voice was much softer as she said this, respecting the bird's business as it was watched. "It's nice to meet you Sunlight. Maybe you could guide me around?" Her attention swung back to him, a smile on her face.

The dusk colored buck gave a knowing nod of his great horned head and replied, "Oh yes, plenty! The Swamp offers a great bounty to her denizens, so long as they know what to look for."

He smiled at the touch of her warm pelt on his. He reveled in it for just a moment. How interesting, how every type of kin had a different kind of fur. Kimeti were lightly furred, fitted for the humidity and dampness of the warm mangroves of the swamp. Kiokote fur was usually even shorter, coarse but sleek and bright, fit for the moorland winds. Acha fur was bristly and dotted with scales that helped them keep cool in the arid heat of the red desert. Totoma had the most fur, tons of it in multiple shaggy layers, to keep their bodies warm in the snow capped mountains of the north. Zikwa barely had any at all! A light dusting of fuzz, like that on a peach, more for sensing changes in the winds of the underground caverns than keeping warm or cool. Absolutely fascinating, he thought, just like plants, each and every one the same, yet so very different! He looked into her eyes for a long moment, holding her gaze in his moment of awe, until the flash of wings caught her attention.

Taking in Sunlight chuckled, "Interesting point of view you have there. Most often say that kin look like the birds rather than the other way around. Wonder why?" He smiled as they watched the bird, neither one pulling away from that gentle touch of the side, "I would love to," he said at last, "Be your guide, that is. You requested food, yes? Tell me of your favorite foods from the plains and I will do my best to find you a suitable replacement."

"Great! I'm Inferno by the way. Inferno of the Sea!" She smiled wide at the buck, tail swishing. "I'm interested in the swamp! Maybe show me something new that you like?" Her head tilted as Inferno waited patiently for the buck to respond. "Like... a fruit or a plant? I like grasses but i'm interested in a lot of other stuff too!"

Her tail wagged again as she spoke, her eyes dragging off of him to look at another bird. "There's so much to look at here... maybe teach me about things around here? If it's ok to ask? I like learning new stuff and i think i'm gunna be in the swamp a while." Inferno looked at him again before smiling politely.

When the sunset-colored buck beamed at her, his long ears twitched lightly, "Inferno of the Sea," He repeated her name, letting it roll around his mouth like a sweet berry. "A beautiful name for such a beautiful doe, it does not surprise me one bit that the MotherFather would gift you with such a name. Now!" He pondered, turning his attention to the Swamp behind him. He bit his lip in thought, "Something I like, you said? Hmm..."

He took a few steps one way, "I could take you to the orchards, perhaps," He murmured before turning the other way, "Or maybe to the clover beds? Those are awfully tasty. Or maybe... What if... Hmm."

Taking in Sunlight frowned slightly, his brow furrowed. He turned to the ocean-fire doe, "Well, Miss Sealight, may I call you that? I came up with it, just now, in my mind, but feel free to object! Anyway, We have a small problem."

He gestured up at the climbing sun that loomed behind the branches above them, "There isn't enough daylight to show you all that the swamp has to offer. Unless, of course..." He became a little shy at this, a sheepish smile playing upon his lips. Was he blushing? "Unless you wouldn't mind staying for a few days? If you want to, of course! I hope you don't mind my asking."
