Shoal had only been at the beach for a few days now but it was a revelation. Though he loved his family and the troupe, something about the sand, sun and surf had touched something in his soul. He was already trying to think of how to tell everyone that he wouldn’t be going back with them.

But for now, with the party in full swing, there was no need to think about it. “Any want to go to the rockpools with me?” He asked the kin around him, hoping for some company as he chased down crabs and stuck his hooves into the sun-warmed pools.

And he had heard that there was some kind of event going on at the beach. The buck was hoping to get to know some of these kin. He was interested in joining the Sand Bar Tribe.

The morning’s event was sand sculptures. He had fun doing that and worked up a righteous sweat.

After he was done, the water looked mighty enticing. With nothing better to do now, Wave Skimmer decided to go for a swim. Well, a splash anyhow. He waded into the water as deep as he dared to and kind of... flailed. Splash! Splash! He wasn’t really going anywhere. But it sure was fun; he brimmed from ear to ear.

Back home in Seven, Zar help a position of relative power and was used to other kin treating him with a wary sort of concern, he always forgot that in the world outside, he was a nobody and that kin out here were bold and not at all bound by made up concepts of rank and heirarchy.

He flustered a little at the joke. "Amongst others." he said, puffing up his oily fur in an embarassed sort of way that made him look more fluffy than large and threatening.

"I am not strange!" he protested, but didn't sound hugely convincing in that either.

His tail, now that it was being discussed seemed to have a change of heart and looped out to try and twist itself firmly around one of Tremendous' forelegs.

"Oh." he said. "Oh no." and set about trying to undo its grip.

There was much reason to drink and be merry! Watch Me had ascended, whatever that meant! Tidal Terror had gone off to the mountains and come back with incredible stories, and two kimeti children that matched her own markings! Spectral Escape had a strange dream and woke with lovely new plumage! And Parrot Head... well she was having a lovely time tending to all the new children, so many of them she sometimes forgot which were actually hers!

Full of drink and feeling playful, she decided to play a prank inspired by her Tidal Terror's namesake. She waited in the water, using her blue scales as clever camouflage, until an unsuspecting kin came near. She eyed Wave Skimmer, swimming a bit closer, waiting patiently for the right moment...

"GOTCHA! HA-HA!" The tribe leader jumped from the water and splashed the kimeti. Smiling, she frolicked in the water around Wave Skimmer. "Hope I didn't scare you too bad! I just couldn't help myself!" She giggled.

“Gwah!” Wave Skimmer jumped, dunking his head on the rebound, and got a mouthful of water. Ptooie! He spat out a small stream including a tiny fish that quickly darted away. The buck had briefly encountered Parrot Head at the sand sculpture contest earlier. “It’s you again!” Oh, that was sneaky, he thought.

“You're in for it now!” Wave Skimmer’s flailing intensified, as he tried to aim a splash of water in Parrot Head’s direction. Mostly, though, he just ended up laughing and inhaling a pile of water, putting himself into a fit of coughing.

She'd never seen most of the stuff here. Granted, her typical diet wasn't exactly diverse most days. But it was still exciting to see all of these new foods nevertheless.

She took another deep sniff and finally tore her eyes away from the feast. That's when she noticed the kiokote working diligently to fend off the flies. "Oh!" Memories smiled warmly and- somewhat reluctantly -turned her attention away from the meal and fully towards Almost There. "This is wonderful! Did you cook all of this?"

“Oh but you are very strange,” she said. “But then so am I, and so is everyone else. It’s a compliment.” As she spoke her attention was on the tail, watching avidly as it coiled around her own foreleg.

“It likes me!” She squeaked in delight and made every effort to not be removed from the errant tails grasp.

Being stuck in the heat waving a fan up and down constantly had his mind drifting to all sorts of places. “Hugh,” he mumbled around the palm stem, blinking back to reality and immediately blushing, only sort of looking at the cute Acha but mostly staring at her hooves.

And then he just stood, awkwardly, not sure whether he was allowed to put the leaf down in order to talk or if he should just keep waving. Eventually, after a long few seconds, he decided he was allowed a quick break and deposited his burden on the sand.

“Oh, uh, no... actually... I um, I helped collect some of the pineapples...” His blush deepened. “But I’m just the... fly guy... or the no-fly guy. I... I wave the leaf.” He was now wishing he had never put down the leaf.

He certainly was the kind of eccentric she expected of the leader of the Royal Rainbow Troupe, a brightly colored and performative kin. He, like her, also seemed to enjoy accessorizing, so at least the two had that in common.

”And I’m delighted to be on the beach today,” Merry dipped her head back to Watch Me as she spoke, ”I think it’s high time for a good party.” Try as she might to be normal, Merry was a bit of a party-lover at heart. ”I’d be happy to be shown around a bit. As you may have guessed, I’m not from these parts, so a tour would be nice.” Not from these parts, but already a little drunk and very much making herself a part of the festivities.

“Neither am I but I had a chance to take a look around yesterday and enjoy the sights-” (everyone else had been busy setting up) “-and there’s a lot to enjoy.” Watch Me turned with elegant high-steps, until he was alongside her and ready to lead the way.

“The sand sculpture contest should be starting soon! That should be fun. Or a nice little trip down by the rockpools. Ah, and up by the palm trees I believe someone is doing massages in the shade.” And later, he thought but didn’t say, though the look in his eyes was enough, perhaps a romantic stroll down the beach.

It was such a short nap, he thought, for they had just settled down form the long journey to this place. Shifting his weight inside the snug hole in the sand, Remember slowly opened his eyes to his new surrounding. It sure looked different at night than in the morning. The crackling of fire burning delicious food made his stomach rumble as he smelled it in the air. The warmth of the fire was nice to feel against his skin, but, what he didn't like was the loud chattering of kin!

It was no wonder that he was the watcher of the tribe. Talking is not his greatest strength. He would of snapped if he had to carry on long conversations with the flamboyant crowd that had gathered.

Getting up slowly, he shook the sand off of his body and looked for the other members of the tribe. Deep down inside, he wondered if his boss had eaten yet. ..

He almost thought Watch Me was nearby but one was too blue and the other too light and too dull. He didn't like it that there were more yellow kin out and about at this time.

"HMPFH!" the acha grumbled in disapproval as he sipped on some fresh juice.

It was always too loud and obnoxious and half the group shirked their duties and Prize always tried to rope her into cleaning duty the next day. All Seclusion wanted, all she had ever really wanted, was to be left alone - an ultimately hopeless wish considering her family and tribe.

At least the location was nice and she was enjoying the sun. Being here reminded her of the one buck who had turned her eye and made her feel special. He had come from the seaside and she couldn’t help but watch for him constantly among the multicoloured throng of kin.

The doe picked her way across the sand and came to a stop beside the only other Acha here who could offer company without being irritating. Seclusion nodded at Remember in quiet acknowledgement. The buck had always been someone who could appreciate silence.

Her eyes closed for a moment. The sun was making her sleepy.

“How’s the juice?” She asked eventually.

It was a losing battle, it always was, when his tail acted upon some unconscious desire, he had a hard time stopping it. What was it this time? He'd only considered for a moment that her fur had looked soft and apparently that had been enough to set the stupid thing off.

"I am so sorry about this." he said, flustered and upset. He tried to keep as far out of other people's bubble as possible for exactly these reasons.

The tail slithered around up to her elbow and patted her shoulder amicably, while Zar tried staunchly to unwind its coils from her hoof.

"This isn't working." he said, with a sigh. "I need to think about something else, I need to distract it."

Completely ignoring the Kiokote it was actually attached to, she started looking around, neck stretched and ears perked, hoping to spot a friend or relative that she could call over to have a look. Ah, there was one!

“HEY! TRIBUTE” She yelled at her sister across the sand. Tribute looked over and even at a distance her eye roll could be seen clearly before the other Acha deliberately turned around.

“I guess she didn’t hear me.” Tremendous said, looking over at Zar with brows raised as if to say sisters, y’know. Then she smiled at him pleasantly until her brain finally realized he had been talking to her.  “Sorry, did you say something?” She wriggled the hoof the tail was currently wrapped around and without waiting for his answer, asked, "does this come in a detachable version?"

It was pretty clear that her sudden appearance had made the buck a little uncomfortable, so it was best not to make the situation any more awkward than it already was. Which meant that maybe it would have been best for Memories to leave the poor thing to his work and end the conversation there, but she loved socializing far too much to do that.

"I see!" She beamed a genuine grin at him. "You have a very important job, then. No one wants a fly with their meal. Well...I guess there are some who would. But I definitely don't. Never really could get over the texture of bugs. Crunchy and squishy? Euugh. No thanks."

Laughing cheerfully, she scooted a bit close to the food. "I've never heard of a pineapple, though. Which one is that?" She examined the array of dishes before her, trying to see if she could figure out the answer for herself. Then she looked to Almost There with a playfully suspicious expression. "...It's not a bug, is it?"
