[B] Feeling Lucky (Death of a Star & Distant Thunder)

Post by CelestialRequiem »

[imgleft]http://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/image ... uncert.png[/imgleft]Death of a Star had already had one large, healthy clutch of children this season. Now that they were all grown and off living their own lives, it looked like he was expecting even more. And considering the seven other children he had from previous encounters who had all successfully survived to adulthood, Star was feeling like a pretty lucky buck right now. Lucky enough to seek out an ascended kin to bless his new clutch even though he'd never done so before- despite his many kids. He just....needed to find one first. Or were you supposed to wait for them to find you?

[imgright]https://matope.pixel-blueberry.com/imag ... uncert.png[/imgright]Distant Thunder had accompanied his mate on a trip inland yesterday, and while they were still in the region for various Rise and Shine-related tasks, Thunder was consumed by the thought of crabs. It was not long ago that they had a good crustacean feast near the coastline on crabs, but he had overheard at the food tribe's grounds that the freshwater lake crabs had a sweeter taste than its saltwater brethen. He had enquired after them, but it was not certain when the next batch would be arriving, given the high tides up from the sea of late. They were willing to trade quite a few preserves for some, which would be helpful for winter.

But Distant Thunder wasn't interested in trading. Distant Thunder wanted to eat some damn freshwater crabs.

He was rooting around in another lake when he felt the call of his Legendary instincts. He had found some promising bubbles and was annoyed by the timing of it all, but when duty called, duty called. He did, however, allow himself a growl before carefully stepping out of the lake (he intended to return later) and galloping in the general direction.

With a very loud "YOW," Thunder skidded to a stop past the bright buck because he had, indeed, found the crab - it was pinching his tail.

Apparently they found you.

Star's neck craned backwards as a figure bolted in front of him, a strand of mane tickling his nose as they passed. He stared ahead with wide eyes and breath held. It was going to take a moment to process the feeling of his life flashing before his eyes. What was the big hurry anyways?

“Uuhhh. You….”

A bit more recovered from the near-death-experience, Star finally turned to look at who had almost collided with him. A kiokote. Not a common sight for Star. That didn’t make him any less irritated at potentially being body slammed. What did, however, were this kin’s glowing eyes. Is this an ascended kin? Star’s mild annoyance at what could have been turned to excitement at what still could be.

“You need help with that?”

Star motioned to the offending crab with his muzzle. He was suddenly quite eager to offer his assistance now that this kin might be able to give him the blessing he sought.

"Oh yes," Distant Thunder turned and backed up towards the sparkly buck with a keen look over his shoulder, craning to squint at the crab - he had yet to realise this kind fellow had other motivation to stay so calm and helpful after having been barged into. His glowing eyes were rather more focused on where the dastardly thing was.

The more he looked, the more he felt the urge to twitch his tail. The crab was clinging on tight, and that made his tail swish rather erratic.

"If you could," Thunder said rather awkwardly, feeling a bit bad about his finicky request, "could you...not bite it too hard? I'd like it in one piece."

Not eaten by someone else, he thought with determination, then twitched again.

"Sorry, it might be a little hard to catch."

"Ah. Um...Yeah, I'll try." Star cautiously approached the other buck's back end, instinct telling him to be wary. Even if it was unlikely the kiokote would intentionally kick him, being near a kin's back hooves was always a good reason to be careful.

"Could you..." He snapped at there one of the crab's legs had been, but Distant Thunder's erratic tail twitching snatched it from him.

"Maybe uh..." Another attempt at catching the crab. Another failure.

"Stop..." And again.

"That..." And again...

Star huffed and straightened himself up. "I'm not going to be able to grab it if you keep swishing your tail around like that." He had forgotten who he was talking to. Only for a split second though. "Ah. Sorry. What I mean is, uhh....If you could try and keep your tail still I'm sure I can catch it!"

How did he end up in this situation...? How did this kiokote get in this situation?!

"Oo sorry," Thunder tried his darndest to still his crab-clung tail and dug his hooves into the ground, "it's just quite, quite pinchy...but I believe in you!"

"What a nice buck you are," he beamed at him very encouragingly, his bright glowy eyes vacuous and oblivious, "such giving kindness in your nature."
