[B] Step softly [Brittle Ash & ???]

It was a sunny afternoon in the swamp and Ash found himself in good spirits, excited.  He'd just received some wonderful news -- he and Fox were going to be parents! Not a blessing that had been planned, but a blessing all the same. The bone colored buck was practically buzzing.

This wasn't his first clutch, but he didn't think his excitement suffered for it.  He was humming softly under his breath as wandered, ears up and turning slowly.  He wanted the best for his babies, a little early help would do wonders.

The crane appeared first, picking its way through the warm shallows in the afternoon sun for fish. The ghostly shadow of the mare followed behind, mirroring the bird's movement until the moment when it noticed the buck. The two figures watched silently for a moment, absorbing, before the mare's eyes lit up with a knowing smile.

"You seem to be searching for something," Meets-the-Sea said, the ghost of her mare form stepping forward through the crane and solidifying as it disappeared. "Or...someone?" She tilted her head, still smiling, the fin atop it flicking open and closed once in amusement.

Ash watched the crane a little dreamily as it moved slowly through the water, then blinked as he noticed the ghostly figure behind it a little belatedly. "Oh." They were moving towards him so he waited, watching with open intrigue until it was the mare he was facing instead of the elegant bird.  "Hello."

"I am indeed," he confirmed softly, almost shyly. "You see I'm, well, I've got little ones on the way, and I was looking for. Hoping for, that is, for some that could help me big them a bit of a helping hand."

Meets-the-Sea smiled knowingly at the buck's hesitation, having once been a bit of a shy thing herself. "It seems I've come to the right place then," she replied. "The Motherfather does have a tendency to pull me gently toward those in need."

She took a step closer toward the buck, raising her head to look him up and down fully, the fin of her tail swaying gently behind her as if caught in a current. "You seem as if you are a competent parent already," she decided after taking in her appraisal of him. "What fear for your children drives you to seek help?"

That shy smile brightened a bit at the compliment and Ash dipped his head in a grateful nod.  "Thank you. I try very hard to be there for them, provide for them." This wasn't his first foray into parenthood, but the nerves never really seemed to abate for him.

"Well it's more...the world is so very unpredictable. If I could, I would wish for them good fortune, to navigate their lives as safely as the Motherfather would allow them."
