[PRP] Under the Mountain x All Debts Paid: Bartering

Post by Tara de Draiocht »

[imgright]https://matope-swamp.com/images/corn/un ... uncert.png[/imgright] Under the Mountain had been traveling for some time now. Alone. Mind you it could be very peaceful at times but then again it can be pretty lonely real quick some days more than others. He had heard from a passing group of achas that there was a kin about that could be bartered for crows.

He always did like birds, intelligent things they were and great for delivering messages to those far away... well depending on the bird. He eyed his treasures and hoped they would be good enough for some haggling. Now if only he could find that blasted kin, grunting he continued onward. Hopefully this wasn't a fool's errand!

Image All Debts Paid had found traveling with two swans, and a crow an interesting experience. Thief was mostly tolerant of Remains, and Blink but once in awhile the crow liked to harass them and the trio got into it some. He'd however been in one spot far too long of a time, mostly because Thief had wound up with a nest of eggs needing sat on. So he and the swans had found a place to settle for awhile. The young crows had begun flying just recently, and were growing more confident by the day in their abilities, and desire to harass the swans, and himself. He'd been lost in thought, chewing on some late season berries when there was a loud noise, some loud honking and cawing causing him to focus and look up, wondering who, or what had set the birds off.

[imgright]https://matope-swamp.com/images/corn/un ... uncert.png[/imgright] Maybe he ought to take a break... The sound of a squawk caused Under the Mountain to look up with a neutral expression; you would never know if he was shocked or startled. "Ah." A sound of delight escaped his lips and muttered. "The master of birds..." Tromping faster he made his way closer and saw another male with striking features. "Hello there." The greeting with spoke out in a gruff tone as he eyed the birds around the other male. "Are you the one who has crows for barter?" Under the Mountain knew he was stating the obvious but he had to be sure just in case.

"If you do, I am highly interested in calling one my own."

Word had traveled fast! He'd seen a few other kin in passing, but none had stuck around long, which was fine by him really. He looked at the gruff totoma before him and gave a slight nod of his head. "I do actually have crows. More than I know what to do with." well his own and several young. Too many birds.

"I am certainly happy to help you get one of your own, and as luck would have it, my crow has had some young, and they're at the age where flight is, well not great but getting there." which was important! He'd never expected another kin to come asking after a crow, and after a few moments thought was a simple "What do you have to offer?" his swans were a short distance off, watching while preening their feathers and Thief, was just being loud. "Oh hush Thief!" he hissed at the crow, not stopping to think the other buck could think it was him being called a thief.

[imgright]https://matope-swamp.com/images/corn/un ... uncert.png[/imgright] Under the Mountain grunted in pleasure. Hopefully this bargaining business wouldn't be too difficult. Alright that was good to know, give the young some time to work on utilizing their wings... A sudden noise and the word 'thief' caused the totoma to be affronted not only by the tone in which it was delivered but the implication!

"Now see here!" His words turning like gravel. "I have plenty to offer you! No need for such insults!" Under the Mountain huffed as he went through his collection. He had done much travelling so what he owned wasn't too bad.. though he had more in his mountain home. 'I hope this will be enough.' Still huffing he muttered under his breath. "Thief... honestly."

He pulled out several mushrooms, fruits, and leaves. "I keep these with me as they have great healing properties if that interests you. They are located around my home in the mountains. Hmm... If that is not your thing then I have a small collection of peat which is mud that can cause fire when heated up on cool or dark nights. I also have this type of mud you can put on your body to chase away the bugs." Continuing in his head he thought, 'And every other creature nearby as well.'

He eyed the other male with curiosity wondering if more was required.

There was a pained sound from All Debts Paid at the totoma getting understandably pissed off at him, and he let out a noisy sigh. His own fault for naming the bird what he had in the end. So taking a deep breath to make sure he spoke calmly, there was a wry "Not you. The crows name is Thief, because it can be one. I'm sorry for the confusion."

He really needed to think through things like names he realized.

Listening to what Under the Mountain had to offer in trade for one of the young crows he was thoughtful. "Perhaps some of that peat, and a few of those healing things. Never know when either will come in handy, right?"

Well it made sense, wandering the swamp and all, accidents could happen but also a way to have some warmth on the cooler nights would also be helpful he wagered. Thief let out a loud cry and flew a short distance off. He watched the young following suit, though one opted to stop and land on the gruff totoma, making All Debts Paid chuckle some. "I think that one likes you."

[imgright]https://matope-swamp.com/images/corn/un ... uncert.png[/imgright] "Oh," Under the Mountain rumbled feeling a bit embarrassed about the miscommunication. "Apologies." He then looked at his stash in thought. "I have never done something like this before. How much is required to trade?" He hoped he wouldn't get scammed on giving too much but a raven would be worth it and he could always go back home to get more. Under the Mountain gathered the peat, herbs, and dried dirt.

A loud cry almost jolted him from his gathering but it was the soft touch of claws on his hair that really shook him. A raven had chosen him, it truly was beautiful and Under the Mountain felt his face soften. "Hello there little one." He turned back to All Debts Paid with a small smile and responded, " So it would seem."

"It's alright, its my fault for picking that name. Misunderstandings are bound to happen." there was a wry smile from him as he admitted to his mistake in naming the bird.

"To be honest, I haven't either. To get Thief, I had to give a doe a swan egg..." he chuckled some and came up to the totoma's side and worked with him to decide on a reasonable amount of what he'd asked for. He didn't want a lot, he had to travel with it, but enough to make it worth the trade. After picking a few pieces of everything there was a nod.

"There, that I think is good. I hope you and your bird will be happy...and be careful of names so you don't have a repeat of what happened between us." he gave a gentle laugh as he collected his goods, pleased to see the young crow staying put. Good
