[SOLO] Flower Crowns [Ascent/How Quaint]

When family was off doing their own things, Ascent had to keep herself busy. She couldn't just wait, and she couldn't always follow after. So many kin appreciated independence, but she found herself stuck with it when it came about. Maybe she was a little clingy with her brother, and with her mate sometimes, but now she could prove that wasn't always the case! And so, she was busying herself with trying to make things. She had seen Azalea's bird make nests before, and now she wanted to weave sticks, branches, flowers, what-have you, much like that!

Easier said than done with hooves. But she was making progress! She too could bend straight things into circles if she tried hard enough! Maybe...

How Quaint wouldn't know boredom if it bit her in the behind. Coming from the zikwa caverns, her experience with the swamp left her just about overstimulated at all times. She observed with quiet contemplation for the most part, but she still held great awe for every tree, every butterfly, among many other things she would never see in the underground. All these experiences would prepare her for the final oneness her deeper self had been striving for since even before her naming dream. She was on a path, spiritual and physical, that she couldn't see, but only assumed she was following even if blindly. But her eyes, her many eyes, could see so much other zikwa would not. She would have her own stories someday to tell those who had to stay below until their time to join the final oneness.

As she continued on, she could her grumbles of distress nearby. Having not met any fellow kin for a while, How Quaint turned after a moment, and followed the noises to their source.

One of the tall horns and long tails, an acha, bright as their rumored ways and personalities, fighting with...sticks?

"Do you need assistance?" she asked after the fellow doe.

Ascent jumped at the sound of a call out of the blue. A feminine one, no less, something she rarely ever got to hear. She looked over and gave a sheepish head-tilt to the kin who found her. "I'm okay, really! Just working on a little something..."

"Is that so?" How Quaint asked of the doe. She blinked her many eyes. "It sounded more like a fight to my ears."

"Ah..." Ascent scraped a hoof in embarrassment. She paused, however, at the moment she caught more than just two eyes close and open on the zikwa's face. "Oh! Oh my. That...how did you do that?"

"Do what? Exist? One could say I am just standing in this space, much like you are. But I am also here because of those who brought me life, and my true self's journey through many lives up to this one. Much like yours, as well." How Quaint stood upright, with very little body language outside of the occasional tail sway.

"...Ah. Okay!" Ascent did not know how to make heads or tails of anything the zikwa had just said. Maybe zikwa were just like that? She heard of how weird they were, coming from the underground and all, and sometimes without eyes! "I have just...never met anyone with so many eyes before! It's amazing to see. ...Oh! And I'm being rude, I think! Apologies. I'm Ascent."

"You are forgiven. In this life I was dreamed into being called How Quaint. My eyes...are not common, I agree. I have not seen it among the zikwa, and not among the overlanders thus far. I was given the gift of seeing when many zikwa cannot, and so I am seeing all I can for myself and for them. And something I have not seen before is...an acha fighting with sticks and flowers as you do."

"Oh, well, I guess I'm trying something new! I just want to make a stick-circle, much like birds do for their nests. And if it's the right size, it can be worn on the head! I think it would stick better than flowers do..." she trailed off. Then, after a moment, she perked back up. "Your goal is really noble, by the way! Having a personal journey must be so nice!"

How Quaint nodded along, now the acha was finally making some sense about what she was up to. It was still odd, but not utterly inane, comparatively. "I have seen such bird nests. If they can accomplish such a thing, it would make sense that you could as well. But you likely need more assistance than they do."

"Oh! Yes! Thank...you? So...does that mean you want to help me?" Ascent asked, parsing everything How Quaint had said in real time.

How Quaint just blinked again. Did she want to? She did not feel one way or another on the subject. But she had nothing more important to do, and this would be one more experience to retell. "I suppose. What do you need of me?"

Ascent pranced in place a little in excitement. A new friend! To help! "Okay! Well, let's see..." She looked down at her mess. "If I can...hook these, maybe, then they'll stay together! Can you help me put them together?"

The zikwa plodded over as Ascent danced and sang. She took the bright doe's direction, and started to assist as needed. As she worked, something stayed on her mind. "You said I had a noble goal before. A personal journey. I suppose one can call it that. But for me, it is nothing more then my destiny. Do you know of your own? Or is it too soon for that?"

Ascent was happy to listen and work at the same time. Still, she paused a moment and tilted her head at How Quaint's questions. "Destiny? I...suppose not?" She had to give it some thought. "I have lived a wonderful life so far. I journeyed with my brother, a kiokote, until I met my mate. Another kiokote. And then we had sons together. Then they left. That's been my life so far!"
