Head Trip

Tasty little plants
Make the world spin round
And lift him across the plain
To never come back down
Except when he awakens
Beneath a large oak tree
That earlier spoke a riddle
The answer.. was it three?
Now so still and silent
Absolutely a bore
In fact, nothing seems as colorful
As it was before
So standing up and shaking free
The remnants of his flight
He ponders over the Head Trip
That lead him here tonight

Starry Dance

She drifted skyward, into the night.
Her hooves ignited sparks of stardust as she went.
She felt the wind caress her cheek and lift strands of her hair like a lover.
A soft, sweet, low melody filled the air.
As she began to sway and swirl to the rhythm the stars began to float towards her.
Encircling her. Joining her in this Starrydance.
The night sky alive in a sea of music and motion.

Hush little Kindred..
Don't worry your tired head
Drift off to sleep
With the Blood Moon full and red
In a forest full of shadows
With a pillow made of moss
As your bones are weak and weary
With your heart so full of strife
But soon will come to comfort you
The Blood Moon Lullaby
To soothe you in the dark
As red moonlight washes over
And steals you from the light...

Old Ways

Forgotten are the Old Ways
Of the healers and the ancients
Except the few that keep it close
And teach it where they may
The ones who hold such truth
Deep within their core
In darkest swamp, on highest hill,
Over valleys vast and long
Keep the Old Ways dear ones
Lest we forget their lessons
And doom ourselves to repeat
The follies of our elders

Valley of Corpses

They picked the flesh from bone
As far as the eye could see
Across and over the fields
Nothing but bodies.. scores upon scores of bodies
The sun rode high but the air felt chilled
Like all the warmth had gone
Smoke filled the horizon and choked the blue from the sky
The cawing of the birds grew louder, disturbed by a movement that wasn't avian in origin
The Zikwa cut through the valley like a ghost
Eyes trained ahead, unfeeling, unmoved, by the endless sea of bodies
His hoof never touched corpse though by all rights he should have at least stumbled over one
Gaze so locked on the horizon
As he floated through the Valley of Corpses

Spoiler
Sitting in a field of flowers with his nose pointed towards the sun
He closed his eyes and wished really hard
He wished for happiness, for laughter, for adventure
And as he wished the world began to change
He put his heart and soul into making the world a happy place

That he'd Conjured up a world

Magnolia petals fell from the trees along the grassy banks, speckling the water below in a shimmer of soft color.
Lilies swirled and danced across the surface, drifting effortlessly downstream.
The sun glistened, casting the water into shifting hues of blue, green and gold.
Among the lush grass he lay, eyes closed peacefully, inhaling deep the crisp spring air.
At peace among the Drifting Lilies.

The winds whipped violently across the field where several mothers had gathered to help a female Totoma give birth. His father was singing, as was his custom, to help ease the mothers difficult journey. He wanted to help, knew that he could be of some use, but he wasn't a singer like his father. He also was too rough, too much Toto to be useful in a delicate situation.

The night continued on and the mother had birthed her first lamb with a second on the way. He was amazed by the sight of it. So small. Fragile. Helpless. He felt a swell of pride and joy for the parents. For the herd. His keen eyes drifted across the many smiling faces surrounding until they landed on something out of place. There. In the darkness. A predatory shape slinked along the fringes, waiting for its chance to drag off a new lamb.

His brow furrowed and without a second thought he backed out of the circle and charged the rogue wolf. Chasing it away into the night. From that night forward he watched. He watched for predators while his father sang. To protect the young and those who needed him. Eventually they began to call him "Watches Over". A fitting name and one he was proud of.
