[S] The Battle of Sight (Stargarden)

Stargarden was in a staring contest with Pain, his jellyfish companion. He was losing, or at least he felt like he was losing. He couldn't tell for sure. It felt like his eyes were closed, and at the same time, he felt like he had no eyes at all. He didn't feel blind, or uncomfortable, or even unsure of his placement in the universe. It was simply that his vision of the world was entirely different than before... different than what he was used to. Not to say that his vision of the world was typical but this was different from its own parameters. The world felt as if it was simply mapped by the stars, and that there was no road to follow. Pinpoints of activity felt alive within him and that was enough.
The wind blew softly and Stargarden felt it so easily. His sensorial abilities of touch felt so heightened by the wind that blew around him that a spark of excitement coursed through him, striking him in fascinating ways that called to him. Similarly to when he was a moth, he felt every gust of wind within him as if it were his own breath. It felt like it was entangling around his very soul, around every piece of him. It brought life into his body, lifting his spirits up into the heavens and completing him.
Light.
He felt very light.
Above the water, the two jellyfish floated there. The wind blew, and Stargarden moved with it without protest and concern. Any path he followed would be his path of destiny, and he knew it was where he was meant to go. He felt free and in unison with the thoughts and behaviours that typically coursed through him, and still unhindered by the obstacles of life that burdened others. He didn't actively choose a direction, nor did he consider it if his new direction was one that took him backwards through his precious path. Beside him, Pain followed suit as if the two of them were joined in a journey pathed out by the wind. Companions on a journey to nowhere, companions on a journey of expression.
Stargarden continued to face Pain, staring into the jellyfish as if he could see into its soul. A silent, raging battle that no one would ever understand except for Stargarden. It was then that the wind shifting, blowing actively and suddenly from the north and then the west. Without consideration for the jellyfish, the wind blew the two apart, ending the battle once and for all. Stargarden felt the wind under him, colder than before, and somehow believed that the North Star was guiding him across the swamp.
Floating there, he felt triumphant. The wind had been quick but Stargarden felt the humiliating defeat brought forth from Pain before they parted. Had Pain blinked? Stargarden believed it to be the truth so unequivocally that it couldn't have been clearer even if they had eyes.
That was when Stargarden awoke to the stinging sensation of a jellyfish brushing against his face. Damn, Pain.
