[ solo ] rest your weary head (Sleepy Time)

He was asleep.

This was not unusual; true to his name, Sleepy Time could almost always be found asleep at any given time of day. It didn't matter whether it was morning, afternoon, evening, or night - sleep came to him easily and with the gentle nudge of waves lulling one into slumber as they pushed against your sides. Sleep was a beautiful thing, in Sleepy Time's mind; a true gift given to them by the Motherfather in an attempt at making up for other things they lacked, like opposable thumbs and longer limbs and the ability to walk through fire (Sleepy Time thought this in particular would have been a useful ability). If he'd had a choice, Sleepy Time would have preferred one of these other things, since sleep could not always be reliable, but in the end this was what they had been given and so he would take it and use it well.

He was dreaming of something big, dark and shaggy watching him. It was perhaps meant to frightening, or at the very least daunting, but Sleepy Time watched it with a sort of detached curiosity, as though he could maybe discern why it was here and what it wanted without drawing too close to it. It felt absurdly real, in the sense that dreams often do, but something about it had lost the dreamlike quality that blurred the edges of its form. Its face was gaunt and hollowed out with dark pits for eyes; a skull, not a fully formed face, something dark and menacing and too sharp around its jagged corners.

It was here to...watch, Sleepy Time decided, as he moved from one foot to the other. He was relatively certain that he was dreaming, because he had a very good knack for these sorts of things, and something about this entire scenario screamed dream to him (in a muzzy, faded sort of way) but still - on the off chance that this wasn't a dream, he didn't want to get any closer. He was pretty sure that a creature like that would try to eat a creature like him, and he really didn't want to be eaten. In fact, it was on none of Sleepy Time's ever present mental lists that he be devoured, so he was going to try and wake up now, please and thank you.

It took several tries. And the creature had gone by the time that Sleepy Time figured out for certain that this was, in fact, a dream. He wondered if he had dreamed a dream thing inside of his dream; if that large, cumbersome creature was actually a layer of dream he hadn't yet experienced. Something about the entire scenario still felt a little off and he didn't particularly like that. In fact, he liked it even less than the persistent knowledge that he still wasn't able to walk through fire at his own whim, nor could he fly, which frankly was quite rude of the Motherfather to deprive him of.

He tried waking up again. This time it worked.
