After what felt quite a long trek spanning the whole day if not more, she plopped down in the snow and looked up at the night sky.

To the stars, where she often looked.

Comet Trail curled her limbs in, around the precious life she carried within herself.

Once she knew she was expecting...she had to go. Maybe to find her half-brother? But she would have no idea where he would be in the great, wide swamp.

Their mother would be of no help, and would ask too many questions anyway.

Maybe their mother didn't notice when Comet Trail had left.

It would be better that way; less to worry about, fewer questions to answer.

Maybe the babies would be right, where she and her clutch weren't. Maybe the lambs would be born nameless, and earn their names like they were supposed to.

Maybe she would be worth returning home.

For now, there were the stars.

But it was cold; she would have to find somewhere warm to sleep before long...

There was a rustle in the underbrush and a pair of glowing eyes appeared, bright stars staring at her for a long thoughtful moment before the body followed and a foxbun pushed out from the bushes. It hopped a few steps towards and then stopped, looking upwards, towards the swathe of stars glittering above.

The winter sky was always so beautiful.

But it was very cold and even a Totoma doe would need to find shelter soon. Another hop step until the foxbun could curl up alongside the doe, sharing her meager warmth. Peep could sense a sadness and uncertainty coming from the mother-to-be and so wordlessly she decided to rest beside her, a gentle, unassuming presence.

For a second, she wondered if somehow she skipped her entire pregnancy and her children were just there now.

But, sensibly, no. It was just a foxbun. It must have been cold as well, and perhaps as lonely as she felt.

It was nice to have company.

She sighed and looked back up at the sky.

It could be said that many legendaries enjoyed the jump scares having a second form could provide. Peep herself got no pleasure from it but sometimes the shift came on so naturally, one body blending into the other, she was never quite sure which one she was.

Where a foxbun had been, now an Acha sat, curled, leaning comfortably against the Totoma’s side as if nothing strange had happened at all.

She jumped up in shock. A part of her - the part of her from her mother - wanted to headbutt whatever had caught her off-guard.

Instead, she looked down at the acha, posture a little defensive. She had babies on board and all of that.

"I- where- who?!"

Each word came out as a big puff of breath in the cold air.

Her nose crinkled as she smiled.

“Have no fear. I’m here to help.”
