[prp]Nearly New Year, Wholly New Look

Post by seru_ame »

It had been, perhaps, a week by Abandon's reckoning since he'd last come... home. A week, but he'd never truly been good at counting the days or nights. He tended, after all, to keep strange hours, and things blended together like snow upon the mountain.

Besides, the snow hadn't begun to fall yet. It clearly couldn't have been that long. Right? The beach was visible, and his hoofbeats picked up as he trotted towards where he hoped he remembered that Shark's den was, his tail pricked up happily.

It in fact had been quite a while since Fears had been home at the coast, and Shark had begun to worry. Not just for the big buck's safety, that was always a given, as he was sure Abandons Fear worried over him when he was off on long trade ventures for the tribe. No, this stretch if time had made he wonder if perhaps the other buck had changed his mind about staying with the cress, and gone back to his other herd near where the swamp met the base of the mountains.

It didn't seem likely, he'd told himself. If not for himself, than surely Fears wouldn't have left their children, even if they had grown and left the den by now.

Still, it was a hard thing to shake. Applying that nagged at the buck in quieter times. He'd been spending more time with Fisheye to keep himself occupied, visiting with his children and not grandchildren. Or even taking more and more treks out to seek food for the coming season change winter was certainly upon them.

In fact,he'd just gotten back from one such journey. Had no sooner made it to his den when he heard heavy hoofbeats in the sand racing in his direction. He paused just outside his den, glancing up at the approaching totoma, not yet realizing who it was.

That long, flowing trail so stark against the sands, even in the maw of the den, was distinctive. If that was not Shark, then one of his older children come to visit. But he was fairly certain that it was the buck he... Bonded with. As the flanks came into view, then the shoulders, Fear's ears perked up, and he leaned his head forward.

"Sweetheart, Shark~" he rumbled, that earth-shaking voice the only thing about him that rang true to his memory.

The hide might have been different but the shape of him, the voice, Shark knew that at once and his ears twitched up with interest. He turned to great the bigger buck, glowing gaze trailing over every inch of the totoma before lifting again to settle on his face.

He had so many questions, and was a loss for which to start with, so instead of asking any he stepped forward to bump his snout up under Fears' chin, nuzzling into the thick fur of his throat. "I didn't realize it was you." He rested there against him, warm and solid. "I missed you."
