SKY FELL IN [ Fell ] :: 09.01.2011 [ buck ]

Resigned. Marked by bones and a day's clouded end, he is almost nihilistic, and spends a lot of his time moping around, wasting all that good sense and perceptiveness he was otherwise born with - which is why you shouldn't leave him to his own devices. He makes a terrible leader, but a top-rate follower - being prone to devotion, once a Kimeti's got hold of his mind, he'll fulfil anything asked of him, even if it is (and he knows it is and complains endlessly that it is) madness. Fortunately, thanks to the good sense and perceptiveness that he'll now apply under leadership, having been inducted by the indomitable The Sun Also Rises to 'co-found' the foodstuff empire Rise & Co., he usually manages to find the least hot-sharp-deathy way to get it done.

...Of course, there's still the little problem of being deathly in love with a boss who has since lifemated with the doe of his dreams, but at least he also really enjoys babysitting.

NOTES :: I've been rabidly stalking Matope ever since it popped up in blue's sig all those years ago, a fact that thankfully only my hardcore thread regs had to bear with as I pawed starry-eyed at their gorgeous kimeti. XD;; I never thought it would happen for me though - till ELF caught me last Thursday (6th Jan 2011) with heart attack in an email: Fell! Well, yes. I freaked out. ^^;; To be gifted a beautiful buck bred from a pair of kimeti I've so often admired by an absolute sweetheart - I could not think of anything better. ELF's an angel - it meant so much to me, I panicked over naming him and took over a day with lots of consultation and a couple of u-turns. XD;; I was fascinated by his colouring and markings, especially in relation to his parents and clutchmates: the spot markings seemed all he clearly inherited from his mother, the rest easier traced to his father. He was the only one to inherit a couple of bones, and the grey pinions on Stumbledown had been pushed out to wide swathes, with a drift up his throat and face more reminiscent of Winking Beetle's patches. His colouring especially got me - the red obvious from Stumbledown, but the purple fade (also appearing but far less extensively on Quailbeak and Beyond the Horizon) was striking in its difference, perhaps from Stumbledown's middle-coverts, or a bleed of his red and blue. He looked like sunset, and I wanted his name to reflect that, with a thought for the bones and the grey - I must have cycled through a dozen options before running across a phrase from one of my favourite Cure songs ( : P ) Pictures of You. I fell in love with the idea of the grey patches representing, instead of the more physical clouds or smoke I had earlier been contemplating, the parts of the sky that have fallen in, as the sun yields to night - essentially, nothing (which ties in nicely with the bones), gaping nothing torn across the sky. And so he is, my darling Fell. Thank you so much, ELF. ;A; I love him.

PETS :: Rise & Co. needed tiny paws, and I knew Fell would have to get a goose/bun army! I got Absfab to do a little squadron off Rise and his kids - and they are perfect! ;A; (Genders technically follow the kin.)

MOONFROST-LIKE-ASHES [ Grey ] :: 11.01.2011 [ sac . foal . filly . doe ]

Grey doesn't care about you. But don't take it personally. Grey doesn't care about anybody. Grey only cares about scienceTM - or more specifically, the movement of the moon and its influence on the swamp's tidal patterns. Her intense interest has nothing to do at all with the fact that the distant orb has haunted her since her naming dream, and she certainly does not spend a good portion of her nightly observation just staring at it. Grey is excellent at never admitting anything she doesn't want to admit.

Due to her specialised interests, her hours are nocturnal: she rarely ever meets another kimeti, and she's more than happy to keep it that way - being ridiculously exact and demanding, interacting with other kimeti less unreasonably focused in their intentions exasperates her. She prefers to keep things as they were in the first vision of her hitherto punctilious life - just her, silence, the cold, and the moon, in a boundless vista of unending grey.

...Yeah, this is all totally never going to come back and bite her in the ass.

Cue brought the angriest owlcat in the world back to Rise and Co.'s from the infamous Haunted Cave one October night, and Rise, finding it rather too difficult to turn it into food and noting its coat colour beside, decided to gift it to his lovely lifemate, Grey. Anyone who has ever tried to keep a very angry feral cat as a pet will know what a wonderful idea this is. It now terrorises the shop constantly...which is probably why, despite a marked disinterest in the very concept of pet ownership, Grey is not entirely fussed about letting it remain in her name...

NOTES :: This is a long, sad tale, so settle in. |< When ELF so wonderfully gave me Fell, I went crazy and tore up the Matope Guild reading everything in my path. That was when I realised that blue has a bribe thread and requests were open. I can't survive for long in a Maxx-less environment, so of course I immediately threw myself into the idea of getting a custom buck for him - we'd been planning a pair of pipedream kimeti together for ages and knew all about what each other wanted. So I PM'd blue that night - never knowing that Maxx had just PM'd her a few hours earlier. DX Can you imagine the nerve of that guy?! And blue, that sneaky magic-maker - she was so cool, so perfect throughout the whole thing, that when she pinged us this morning... Well, to cut a long and frenzied story short: needless to say, we got The Sun Also Rises and Moonfrost-like-Ashes at the same time, nearly killed each other, then exploded on blue. XD And we are in the delicate position of knowing how each others' kimeti will look as adults but not knowing of our own - and also of owing blue a lifetime of supreme gratitude, like whoah. ♥

PETS :: BLOODY CAT IS THE BEST. I am not used to being rewarded for doing stuff I like - so getting third pick for active RPing in the Haunted House ORP was whoah. And even though I've been jonesing for a wasp for Cue for a while (and the green one is so beautiful, I was so happy it went to Ruri), I'd also been idly contemplating an owlcat for Grey with the approximate storyline above. Now I was being presented with the angriest owlcats in the universe. And one of them was grey. I sent in my preferences and crossed my fingers, and to my incredulousness - first choice, baby! I am so exciet over Bloody Cat! Thank you so much for being such an incredible patron saint of Matope RP, phoenix! And thanks for doing up the angry angry owlcats, Rejam! So happy! SADDENED EYES [ Weep ] :: 26.02.2011 [ doe ]

She is quiet - very quiet, almost never speaking unless she is spoken to, and has a tendency to watch apart, her eyes glowing unearthily in her dark face, when others gather. Due to her unnerving behaviour - and perhaps her slightly eldritch appearance - it is easy for most to assume that she's...emo strange. Touched. Weird. Do not let your children near. In truth, she isn't even merely shy. Weep just believes in an economy of words and actions, comfortable with leaving well alone and being left alone unless necessity dictates. This is probably because she has her hands full with keeping her sister, the unreasonably idealistic campaign-enthusiast, Summer Fades, out of trouble when the latter is on one of her endlessly varied crusades for does' rights, or workers' rights, or whatever is the socialist flavour of the week. If you cared to speak to her first, you would likely find an insightful, acerbic mind that's perfectly willing to entertain your views if you're not an idiot.

NOTES :: On the 16th of February, blue coloured the epic batch that is Coming Up Mud. Well, we weren't there. We were in bed. But the next day, we watched back on the stream, and just happened to make wistful remarks about Doe 4 and Doe 5 (the does now known as Weep and Fade) that I won't repeat here because Maxx beat me up the last time I did in a public place. On the 25th of February, Mage sent us a PM about these two very does...to quote myself, "if anybody remembers the bit in the music video for Wheatus' y2k loser anthem, Teenage Dirtbag, where the 'hot girl' goes "I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby. Come with me Friday, don't say maybe" - when Mage PM'd me asking if Maxx and I wanted those two does, that loser there in the scene was me." The sheer serendipity of this never fails to amaze me - thank you so much for letting us have them, Mage, Fluo. So much.

DARK IS A WAY [ Dark ] :: 13.03.2011 [ doe ]

Dark is on a lonely journey. In many ways, her naming dream says it all. As a grown doe, she seems fearless, a competent and intrepid traveler, often striking out under the cover of darkness to explore territories afar. Underneath that forbidding facade, however, she yearns for nothing more than the days she spent inseparable from her beloved brother, Light is a Place. Born as one, the twins eked out their early existence together, and where Dark's lead placed them in the path of danger, Light's calm head would ensure their extrication from it - it was perhaps inevitable that she would come to quietly idolise him as an infallible solace. But as they grew, it was evident their paths should diverge - and despite her unhappiness, she strove to prove her independence...for Light was just the sort who would sacrifice his own full life to ensure hers, and, that, she certainly loved him too much for. To keep herself from being, well, clingy, she travels often into distant territories, and enjoys the splendour of unfamiliar sights - but what she treasures most are the moments upon her return, where the twins will always meet to speak as one again. In the meantime she spends her days being socially awkward, oddly naive, wholly unimaginative, and talking to herself a lot. When the Great Flood came, she struck out in terror to find him, but though she helped rescue many, her brother was not among them. The Sun Also Rises of the infamous Rise & Co. found her in her nihilistic grief, and gave her employment and purpose. Over time, she slowly learnt to separate her core of loss from her daily content, and now finds solace in her traveling job and occasional visits with the various children she eventually bore.

A LONG WAY ( Far | Cat ) [ 08.05.2011 ]
A stunning, cunning, feline felon. Prior to Far's litter, the only kimeti known to have befriended a cheetah was Motes-in-Moonlight, prompting the kiokote Windjammer to approach him with two cubs for those deemed worthy. That did not quite happen in Far's case. Attracted in the middle of the night by the scent of ocean fish from Dark's journey back from the sea, he broke from camp, stole the first, tricked for the second, and begged for the last. Dark is a soft touch. She spent some time locating Far's owners, but was allowed to keep him; the naming went thus: "You're a long way from home. A long way. That sounds like my name. My name is Dark is a Way, by the way. Maybe I'll call you A Long Way." *everything in a 10-mile radius dies of boredom* She usually just calls him cat. Against all odds, he is quickly maturing into an excellent and dependable companion, most suitable for stealth and subterfuge.

...no more alone / as I sail out to die... - Poem on His Birthday

NOTES :: Even without being able to see the twins before entry, I was so excited by Kait's naming dream contest - the names on offer, for one, referenced Dylan Thomas' poignant "Poem on His Birthday"! Except - whoops - they didn't; they referenced Anberlin's latest album title. XD I enjoy Anberlin, so that was not the problem - the problem was that I'd excitedly written a wordy homage to Thomas' poem as my entry and now Kait was going to have to live through it. But not only did Kait live through it, she eventually chose my entry after a long battle, and Dark was all mine! ;A; Thank you so much, Kait, I love her so! This is what I'd originally explicated with my entry: "I have to credit the source! Since the names were originally from Dylan Thomas' "Poem on His Birthday", I couldn't help but do this as a rudimentary homage to it - thus I stole worked off the structure and worked in the two lines most significant to my narrative from the original ("Dark is a way and light is a place," and "But dark is a long way"). It really is a splendid poem, and the system of almost-never-quite-rhyming slippages is amazing, if daunting to emulate. I constructed this with Dark is a Way as the doe, not just because I'm crazy about does as I think it better parallels Thomas' original masculine narrator and invocation of a masculine God to have a feminine narrator invoking a feminine deity, particularly since where Thomas struggles with death, she strives towards it - and also I like the idea of the female representing the action between the two. But...you know, Kait, whichever! XD;; Also preserved the third-to-first-person shift as I really admired the poignance of Thomas' in coming to grips with death. Thanks for the contest - I really enjoyed this one!"

PETS :: Dark was the first of my kimeti that I instantly thought 'she needs a pet' about. Whatever she was to have, I knew it had to be a predator that could run steathily with her at night - that narrowed the choices down to owlcat or lynx, but neither really sat 100% right, missing the long-distance traveller's speed I'd envisioned. In other words, she needed a cheetah, but that was right out of the question, being largely a kiokote-exclusive, so I tentatively settled on owlcat and left the matter for a far-off day. When phoenix and Corn slotted a cheetah breeding into the new pet bribe thread, I'd hoped that it would get picked up as the parents looked immensely compatible - but I never expected that two of the offspring would be put up in an RP contest! That kimeti could participate in too, holy cow! And as soon as the image loaded - bam, I was in love with cub #3 - and it was just the right saturation for night-running with Dark! For the duration of the contest, I was obsessed, writing my entry and trimming it down to manageable lengths like a crazy person, but who would dare bet on such an elusive prize? I made back-up plans for my loss, all unsatisfactory - but in the end I didn't have to resort to them and Dark got her perfect companion. (Technically male.)

Every inch a lady to her cold stone heart. Immaculately elegant, perfectly polished from pink-tip-to-toe, two tight roses in her flaxen curls just so. Soft-sweet, that bit shy, a pale blush on her cheeks - the blushing bride, the rose bride, the winter bride, the strangling vine. Not so much immoral as perfectly amoral, a beautiful parasite - for 'all I see' is 'me'. If there is something of yours she wants, she will run with you - if you would have her, of course, for there is only so much she can do, dependent on the kindness of strangers, and you are so kind? When that of yours she wants is hers, or if she simply loses interest in the hunt, she will leave - broken or not, she opines, is up to you. Unless she deigns so, you will never see her again.

A femme fatale is not without her own strange honour - but if she feels, she will never show it; if she loved you, you will never know it.

The sweetest little snake, See's unmitigated darling. A gift of sorts from a buck she won't forget, the gentlest soul, Thoushalt. Not that she is normally one to trifle with such irrationalities, but Thou's strange ability to speak with animals has left her wary of distressing the innocent creature with her less savoury activities - just in case the snake might understand every word, she takes care to conceal the worst of her heartlessness...one might argue that in itself would disprove heartlessness, but she is not one to trifle with such irrationalities. Blush remains ever loving.

I was rushing a huge deadline at the same time, but I could not leave well alone, prodding and prodding like to a pained tooth, and in the end finished with 4 pieces of varying agony. That was not what earned her for me though, as I had calculated aforehand. Oh, no - it was the fifth entry, what I knew to be the showstopper, that I could never do on time but Maxx could. And, lo, I was pleased, for it was just as I had wished. Yeah. Until that cheater swapped his edited semi for my semi! DX To cut a long story short, we ended up rushing crappy concept drawings of a conceptually-but-not-visually-matched distant pair, and threw them at blue without even any shading, begging her to work her magic. And, of course, she did. For the lulz, here is my original plea: "OH yes - hair edit would be nice. ; ) This is technically the pic she's based off - it's largely for that detached rose bride concept, with the approximate colours and ideas I'd like in play. You'll notice there's no shading whatsoever and the colours on her dress are randomly splattered on because I can't CG for crap so I'm relying entirely on you to make her look good with your magic and whatever and however markings or anything you think will be suitable! She's essentially themed off bridal rose bouquets of the cream/pale-pink/light-green variety (this is a very bad pic - I couldn't find an example closer to what I meant, but it's just for the idea. ^^;; ), with the whole thing feeling like one of those elegant, virginal, slightly sinister upscale wedding banquets where the bride looks a bit like a porcelain doll largely because she's only marrying for the money and is planning to off her husband-to-be. XD"

PETS :: As soon as I caught sight of See for the first time, I knew she needed a snake, rose-blushed like her slithering streak, to curl around her white stockings. So when vagues came a'knocking for RP with her animal-communicating Thoushalt, I asked for a snakey set-up to facilitate that end. Midway through that RP, I'd gathered RL references for a bribe I'd call First Blush (See - First Blush, geddit? Geddit? *shot*), and asked vagues whether we could work it into the RP if it was accepted. "That would be a very bad idea," vagues said. ADFSDFADGHJKHK VAGUEEEEEESSSSSS You can guess what had transpired. XD When the time finally rolled around in the RP, and vagues unveiled the beautiful little creature in the thread, I fell - and hard. Isn't she just the most beautiful little thing? ;A; Crazy crazy kind generous wonderful vagues had sekrit-bribed Abs into matching a snake to See and augh - so so very perfect, far more beautiful than my bribe would've turned out, and eminently suited for the name First Blush. She is See's perfect little baby...and mine too. ;A; I am admittedly biased in this respect, but I adore watersnakes and she is just the most beautiful little watersnake I have ever seen. MY TROUBLE [ Vexed ] :: 07.04.2011 [ doe ]

Vexed is vexed - who'd da thunk. Bright and quick with a sweet, lilting voice; an excellent hunter. Her speciality is birds: a stone carefully lined up on the ground, a canny flick of a hoof - a wing curtailed mid-flight, and she can pluck one bare under three minutes, to boot. A little shy, maybe, but not too shy - and nothing an earnest gift of a special feather can't fix. There would really be nothing wrong with this little doe at all - if not for the crippling OCD that governs her life. Intent scrubbing to ensure her mostly-white coat stays pristine; intent scrubbing to make sure the stones she chooses for the hunt are spotless. Precise number of steps to any destination; precise number (and type, and size, and shade, etc.) of birds to obtain. Plucking must be performed symmetrically, center to outer-most, infallibly. These are just a selection of the many different ways in which everything must be just so - or she would surely go mad.

She suspects she is already mad. She knows there is something utterly destructive about her desperate compulsions, and strives to quell them, but - oh, how much, how much can she do? She tries her best to channel the worst of her condition towards the one obsession hobby dictated before her birth by her naming dream: the collection of feathers, impeccably sorted, labelled, and preserved. It is not enough, and secretly, hardly admitted even to herself, she prays that someday, someone - someone who can - will come along and ease her trouble.

Such a Kin has not quite yet emerged, but in the meantime her myriad progeny, whether by blood or circumstance, have both soothed her agony somewhat and inflamed new avenues of agony - are they all alright what if something happens to them aaaaahhhh -

Anyway, you can find her and the family at the Feather Tree - a massive tree covered by endless feathers from her hunts tied to its sheltering branches they make their home.

NOTES :: Oh gosh, where to start with Vexed? I didn't name her My Trouble for nothing - but what a wonderful way to be troubled! I'd been jonesing for the 'April Event' - what turned out to be the 'Festival of Abundance' from the moment blue mentioned it; of the kimeti unveiled for it over the preceding months, it was the 'blossom doe' that I was reasonably sure I'd target, and I'd been steeling myself to bid for her, having the presentiment she would be the auction. Well, she was - but when blue released the final line-up, my eyes kept travelling to this 'feather doe' hitherto unseen. The blossom doe was beautiful, and hit all the right notes for me - an amazing colour combo, great hair edit, and little roses - but my heart kept pulling me back to the little white doe. She was to be contested away - a speed search for the species featured in 20 slightly edit photos - and it was a contest I was sure I would be pretty hopeless at. Essentially I thought I would have little-to-no chance, but when the contest went up, I rushed into the fray anyway. Throughout the whole desperate search, my fingers were shaking - but the eye I kept on the thread told me that others had already submitted full answers, so I thought that surely it was over. There was still the slimmest hope of getting rolled for second pick and praying that the winner would opt for the buck, but my luck has always been atrocious...and I was stumped over the first animal, sure that my deduction was incorrect. I was facing an RL deadline that night, and I had already spent too much time on the list, so thinking my chance had gone, with a heavy heart I submitted my answers, and angsted over the next couple of days about not delaying the submission to try to find the right answer for at least the hope of slipping into the second-choice raffle. But I knew any hint of a chance I had was dead in the water. The feather doe had never been anything more than a pipe dream, now vanquished. Then along came All I See - completed on the day the results for contest were to be released, she did a wonderful job of taking the sting of, to understate the case (good thing too, being sure as I was that I'd be outbid for the blossom doe from the start, harhar). I was floored by how gorgeous See turned out, and content in the knowledge that I was already so lucky, I hardly needed to wring my hands over the event. There was just one moment, one tiny moment: I rearranged my beloved herd for a symmetrical sig-pic - and paused for the briefest moment to wistfully muse how perfectly the feather doe would have slotted into the gap in the middle. BAD JUN. NO COOKIE. I quickly turned my thoughts back to my beautiful See - and was in fact right in the middle of gushing my heart out over her in the Matope thread...when blue dropped the bomb on me: I was the earliest top scorer (19/20) to submit within the deadline, was I sure I didn't want a contest kimeti? ; ) For the next few minutes, my world overturned, I was reeling, I needed to sit down, I was already sitting down, I needed to lie down, this was impossible - impossible! I was sure - so sure - I - what?! It was the mouse-thing I got wrong? Not the dog-thing I angsted like hell over? I was just careless! ANYWAY. My immense, damning guilt in my heart, my fluttering heart in my throat, my cozy thoughts of contentment, See shooting me the evil eye, with all this hammering at me...I still had to take her. I am only a man, so weak - from the moment I set my eyes upon her, I was lost. And I'm sorry, everyone, but I cannot bring myself to regret. There remained the small problem of naming her - I had been so sure I never stood a chance (briefly considered calling her that) that I hadn't even given it the slightest thought. After a search almost as frenzied and desperate as that for the contest answers, I eliminated the rest of my few near-and-dear options and decided on 'My Trouble', Vexed for short - the song I'd prised it from had a feel very much like how I felt my little doe, it neatly fitted the OCD personality I was sure I would have for her...and in many ways, she was very much my very-darling trouble. c: ETA: One last thing - the OCD part? Pretty much me. :V

PETS :: This was an endeavour that took years - and every bit was well worth it. The only pet Vexed could ever have. (And also in a roundabout way, it resulted in my bby Lurid. <3) (Technically male.)

Guest is the summer of her discontent. A delicate elfin beauty, soft-voiced and light-footed - but always with the tension right beneath her skin, a desperation keening to claw out; an endless summer, that begins in splendour and drags on into oppression, a "sky that refuses to die." You might meet her in some sunwashed glade, her hair spun sunlight. She will be quiet, but she will be friendly, she will inquire after you in the softest of voices; if you hit it off, she might even press up against you as the light fades. But her eyes will always be distant.

There is something missing. She never quite fits in. Even to look upon her - perhaps it is hard to look away, but perhaps it also hurts to look at all. She is discreetly sharp under her softness - intuitive and quick-witted, though she does not care to turn that wit upon anyone - but she is trapped within her suffocating sense of longing...for what? She does not yet know.

Until then, she drifts from buck to buck to fill the emptiness inside her, yearning to discover her desire.

NOTES :: Guest is incredibly special to me - 7th to be acquired, but intended to be the emblem of my collection from nearly the start. It was right after Maxx and I had stupidly surprise!customed Rise and Grey for each other and then even more stupidly decided to lifemate them. So at that point I had gay!buck and lifemated!doe while Maxx had lifemated!buck. Aware that a big part of the Matope experience is the incredible permutations of babbies from breeding - but not yet aware of how kimeti herds tend to expand of their own volition pretty much - we decided that we needed a pair of gorgeous 'meti to throw at people (being that Maxx only had a buck at the time he'd thought a doe was in order; being that I'm a doe freak...). I well knew what I needed this doe to be based off: being that almost all my 'meti are named after songs, I'm obviously horribly influenced by that kind of malarkey, and one in particular had come to strongly evoke how I felt about the entire incredible Matope experience (that I named my 'meti journal after it, actually). Maxx in turned had picked one of his favourites from the same band to pair with mine. Alright, who doesn't love songmeti?! blue! blue doesn't love doing songmeti off songs she doesn't know! XD;; With our original intentions scuppered, we shelved our plans to mull them over; I had already started plotting out my visual interpretation of the feel of the song for her naming dream. Time passed, herd grew, in the recesses of my ceaseless mind I never stopped dreaming - which was bad because the specificity and edits on her also grew...I was getting really worried she would forever remain a pipe dream, for where could I get the cash to persuade blue to do a girl with a fluffy bob, budded antlers, and leg floof for me? Then one day, blue popped up to ask how she could bribe me for a pair of Phonies to surprise!gift her friends with... You know, she really is the sweetest darn thing, and I should really feel bad that the first thing I thought was 'Guest! You can be real!,' BUT I REGRET NOTHING. Especially since - holy mother of pearl, those Phonies. Made me cry. *is such a lazy artist you would never even* In return for a pair of Phonies I poured hours of eye-stinging squinting and refining into (that I quite enjoy the outcome of myself, actually), blue agreed to do my heart's joy (and Maxx's maneater) for us. I'd actually meant to hold off on cashing in on them because I knew I had to do her naming dream, which she was to be visually based off, digitally for colour fidelity, but had no clue how on earth to translate the image in my head to computer. But blue, as all good artists, was keen to deliver on her half of the bargain, so I forced myself to sit down one night and muddle something out (that I later let be kitbashed into submission for Maxx's girl's naming dream as well, so well worth the time, as it were) - and sent her an essay.. In my defense, it only looked so long partially because I'd broken it down into component parts. In less than a week though, she told us "I think I'm going to stream them tonight." Words cannot describe - I missed most of Maxx's (ridiculously incredibly artistically gorgeous) Death to Death because he'd decided not to wake me after my late night (WAT), but was in time to catch all of mine, which blue'd actually postphoned till after Maxx's so I could watch. If you've never watched a kimeti of yours being streamed, I can tell you my experience was akin to a religious one. I was practically dizzy from joy and awe at each step, the adorable fluffy hair, then the artful gleaming buds, then the - augh, I can't even express the depth of my emotions (all blindingly positive) at the time. In the end her colour placement and patterns turned out quite quite different from what I had half-fearfully expected (this included a lot of eyeraep panic), but how - how could she be any more beautiful, any more perfect? So much about her, everything about her catches me and stills my breath in my throat. And starts a soundtrack in my head. To say I'm so happy is a ludicrous understatement - she is every, and so much more, than I could ever have imagined...and I've been imagining her for a long, long time. Thank you so incredibly much, blue. Thank you. I hope you have more friends you want to surprise!gift aaaaa

PETS :: How the heart bends, and summer she sends a sky that refuses to die. What colour is Guest missing from this? Blue! So I set out on my first pet quest - and thankfully Abs so very graciously picked up my bribe not a month later. This was the request: "This blue green sky sea shot from some poor guy I googled up on Flickr! Except - could I please request for the colours to be lighter as you see fit to better complement the owner? I just fear the colours as they are in the picture might overwhelm You Come Around when her songbird is next to her. Thank you so much!" and I'm so happy with how adorable she turned out - especially since she reminds me of a Swablu, which I adore so much I actually had a breeding scheme going on at one point to find one with just the right personality, something I've never repeated with any Pokemon since. XD Happy!

LEAVES-THE-SEA [ Stream ] :: 08.06.2011 [ doe ]

Half of a happy whole. Str'y/m was born into a large clutch, and Str'm/y knows Str'y/m is not the most distinctive - especially not next to the sister/brother who is so striking/lovely; but Str'm/y also knows that Str'y/m is special, because Str'm/y is never alone.

Free-spirited twins: cheerfully afflicted with a terrible wanderlust, they wander the landscape, delighting in the varied sights they see; quite, quite normal - except they think that they are not two, but one. They don't think of themselves as two different kimeti, but as one kimeti handily residing in two different forms (sometimes it is easier to reach a cluster of berries in the centre of a bush when you are smaller and slimmer and can reach a little farther; sometimes it is easier to push an inconvenient rock aside when you are just that bit stronger and sturdier). Doesn't everyone have more than one 'me' inside? Doesn't everyone argue with themselves sometimes? The only difference, after all, is that they do it out loud. They travel ceaselessly, living easily off the land and oohing-and-aahing over the wonders they see; they are not often seen, always on the move, always searching for those strange little places others aren't even sure exist, or would want to venture even if they knew they did, always travelling at whatever odd times they feel like for the day. When they go through areas they know they are likely to meet other kimeti, they tend to split up, knowing that when others see them together they are always addressed as two, and that annoys them beyond belief. Apart, they speak just as they do together, freely and melodically, believing their counterpart speaks with them also. When asked for their name, they introduce themselves homonymically - "My name is Leaves-the/to-Sea/See," the free-flowing trip of syllables eliding the barest difference. Often when those who have met them alone converse to each other after, confusion occurs:

"I met Leaves-t'-See today, and he said -"
"He? I met Leaves-t'-Sea today too, and she's a doe!"
"What?! No! He was definitely a buck!"

And so on. By the time someone figures out there were two of them, they have already moved on to their next destination.

When they are together, their private names are Stray and Stream, but they pronounce it so - Str'y, Str'm, the tail barely distinct (a chirp cut short, one inflected upwards and the other downwards at the end). They trade fond jibes, they wonder, they laugh. When they run together, they run in tandem, side-by-side, that if you see them from a distance, you would blink and think one a shadow of the other. If one chances to properly meet them together and have them speak, they would speak as one - you would hear their voices perfectly harmonised, good-humoured and light and perhaps prone to lyrical hyperbole, but almost eerie in the exact duplication of each other's words. This happens so rarely, few have realised there are twins. They themselves have not yet realised.

NOTES :: When I'd gotten Guest, the fruition of five months' dreaming, I felt...content. I had seven kimeti, a good number, and I'd decided to still my desire for more for the time being. Then less than a week later, vagues announced that his beautiful Meets and her beau Nudge had had their babbies, and a twin doe was to be contested away - "You should join," he told me. A doe. A Meets-bby doe. A Meets-bby doe who is a twin. A Meets-bby doe who is a twin who is to be RP'd with vagues' half of the twins. I love does. I love Meets. I love twins. I love twin-RP. I love vagues. ಥᗣಥ Even at this point I was brainstorming ways to resist - but as soon as the contest went up... DX I did not even need to brainstorm concepts. "Mini-Meets!" my mind went, and the basics fell into place instantly. Maxx came over to look at my screen and went, "Somebody get her and call her Leaves-the-Sea, and make her nickname Stream!" And. It. All. Went. Down. Hill. From. There. This had happened just before our evening out for dinner, so for the next few hours I jabbered about this to Maxx non-stop. Then I came home and wrote up 2000 words immediately. Oh Lord. Desperate attempts at cutting down did not work, I was crazy in love with the concept and crazy in love with the twins. Despairing, I finally posted a couple of days later, and sure of failure, started wondering if "Just for the Halibut/Hell of It" were suitable kimeti twin-names for questing. Thankfully, vagues saved the swamp from Halibut! 8D I was so sure I wouldn't get her that even as I sleepily followed the quote notification to the Guild in the morning, I hadn't twigged on, but - AAAAAUGGGGGHHH! I was so happy - I could never have used these names for another pair of twins, since they were based off their mother's, and their personalities would never have been the same, I was just overjoyed that these beloved twins would exist - and I would get to RP twins with vagues! 8D Thank you so much, vagues! Flayre! Thanks for giving me your beautiful baby girl - I love her so much, every time my eyes fall on her bright colours, I just have to smile. c:

PETS :: When I first saw this songbird in Astra's 10-bird contest, I thought 'it would be so perfect for Stream!' But I thought I shouldn't try because she can't have a pet till she becomes an own person, after her twin breeds, and who knows when that will be? But it kept at me and kept at me till I did, and I still think it's so perfect for her. Not very different from how I got Stream, in other words! I won't repeat the haiku I submitted to get it because it's a little rude... Stream will acquire this bird after she and Stray start on the way to their wandering troupe. It will remind her of the sea, and she will name it Whitecap, after the crashing waves that the birds called over in her naming dream. (Technically female.)

TIME AFTER TIME [ Rewind ] :: 15.06.2011 [ doe ]

Born with total recall, Rewind can remember every single thing she's ever seen or heard. Unfortunately, with so many memories stored in her mind, she finds it hard to retrieve the appropriate one at any one time. Ask her for information in a crisis situation and...uh, let's just say it's always better to run first, ask later. Odds are she'll eventually figure it out, but no one wants to wait around that long with a croc bearing down on you; maybe you can come back later.

Aside from that crucial flaw, Rewind is a natural scholar grateful for her eidetic memory, extremely intelligent and not a little pedantic - a good number of her sentences in familiar company start with a patient and earnest, "did you know?" In fact, forget about the croc, just start running from her if you don't want to be stuck there bored to death by endless circumlocution about some random factoid. Not that she won't stop if you ask her to - oh no, she will cease post-haste, a little flustered, and certainly apologise. Unfailingly polite and well-meaning, she may perhaps begin a little reserved, but will become friendly soon enough if you approach. While she exudes a certain harmlessness, she is actually well capable of defending herself in times of danger - if only her insatiable love of knowledge didn't render her so easily distractable, the same distractability that usually leads her into said danger in the first place. Perhaps if Rewind had grown up with proper familial influence, she might not be so useless at taking care of herself, but she really has very little idea of where her family is. She has a vague impression that there were many of them, and then there weren't - she has dated the period in which her sac was laid to just before the Great Flood, so perhaps they were all washed their separate ways by the waters.

Due to her brain automatically trying to store every piece of information that comes her way, she is prone to sensory overload, succumbing to incapacitating headaches when that happens; but she's okay now - ow, ah ah - no, she's okay now, really.

Rewind isn't sure where the eaglehound came from - for as long as she can remember (and she is relatively sure she can remember everything almost from the moment she'd spilled from her sac) he has been at her side. She also remembers a distant voice from before she could see calling him Stealjaw, hence his name ever since. It is a very good thing that Rewind has the customarily-silent, strong, competent Stealjaw herding her out of trouble at every possible opportunity, or...well! On his part, sometimes Stealjaw can barely believe how difficult his owner can be to keep alive - but he is superbly protective of the doe he would give his life for.

NOTES :: So I have a blue-eyed kimeti called Rewind who is almost totally useless in spite of having infinite memory capacity, with a pet almost her size called Stealjaw who is silent and professional. I AM A MASSIVE GEEK. It all begin when Maxx got Break, leafed through breeding pages - and totally fell in love with the thought of ELF's gooooorgeous Heart Shatter for him. Break is a red-eyed villain who destroys and disposes. Heart Shatter is a blue-eyed sweetheart with steely determination to protect her loved ones. DECEPTICON X AUTOBOT PAIR. It is impossible to overstate what huge Transformers geeks we are, so Maxx went through hell and high water to make it happen - culminating in a 5-kid adult-only clutch for an art trade many months later. I couldn't talk him out of giving me a bby - and to be honest, I didn't really want to, certainly I mean to give him all the bby he wants from my breedings whenever I'm so lucky, and I. Am. In. Love. With. Heart. Shatter. But until we started watching blue stream their creation, neither of us realised how hard it is to choose. DX I'm not even directly involved, but the feeling of 'these are our babies' as you see the traces of each parent in their make-up...aaaaugh. Vague hints of character start floating around even as they are filled in (exacerbated by the fact that it was so obvious which were Autobot and which were Decepticon bbys); by the end of the stream, we were practically agonising at each other. I gotta admit - I was horribly swayed by the Decepticons - the kimeti now known as Broken Things might have been the closest I've been yet to choosing a buck, and the doe now known as Shot Me Down has such a very corrosive look to her that is so compelling. The more I looked at her, the more she reminded me of one of my favourite Transformers ever ever, the useless little Cassettobot Rewind. Most people don't even remember he exists, but I love him so much, I've drawn several genderswap versions I named my notebook after him. XD Once I could not get that thought out of my head, I was sunk. I'd admit that there were other names I'd entertained before I got to see her, but my quest to nickname her 'Rewind' made Time After Time a shoo-in. And I shamefully adore that song, the Cyndi Lauper music video being one of the very few English tracks we grew up with...and what could be more sentimentally 80s than Cyndi + Transformers? I am so in love with this little girl. Thanks, ELF, blue, and Maxx for making it happen! XD

PETS :: The day right after Maxx gifted me Rewind, the incredibly kind, generous, and darling Huni Pi surprised me with Eaglehound #1 from her gorgeous Does Toes breeding - I was floored. Not only had I just been contemplating a protective pet for her...he matched her so well that I'm not sure he could have matched her any better if I'd tried to bribe Abs for a matching custom. I still can't believe the serendipity of it all. Being that size and shape, I naturally had to call him Stealjaw. *shot* I'm sure there's some sort of mortal punishment for making what was a lion into an eaglehound, but look at that! With the size and the mane, I couldn't have gotten any closer if I'd tried. XD Did you know that the initial release of the Rewind transforming micro-cassette came packaged with Steejaw alone? It's true! Thank you so much, Huni, I - I still can't get over how perfect he is! (Technically male.)

Rouge is an artist. Statement? Kill! She bursts into the swamp, all swagger and verve, sand dog bounding eagerly in her wake; males should romance her, she informs, but with females, she prefers to do the romancing - oh, that's not what you're after? Then let her tell you about her work instead, the one thing she loves even more (of course, next to her darling puppy - who's a good puppy? That's right!): you see, she was born with a dream - well, they all were, but her dream revealed her passion. She's a hunter, but not just any hunter - she is an artist. Loping far, far out, the thrill of the run; finally - a hare - her dog pounces, shakes it limp, flings it into the air. She springs - slices it open with her sharp little hooves, arcing a bloody ballet across the desert sands with one leap, then another, turn, kick, spiral aaaand stop - ta-dah! Piece number 137: Impression of dunes, with three stars above; red on tan. At the end of a day's hunt, she delights in cracking open a cactus and wiping her limbs clean of the stains before taking a big bite of juicy pulp; blood does flavour a cactus so well, and red blossoms so beautifully into pink across the flesh...pink is such a lovely colour, don't you think? That was back in the desert, of course; now that she's here in the swamp, she can't wait to get started - after all, she's been dying for a new canvas.

Is she capricious? Certainly. Is she shallow? Probably. Is she psychotic? Maaaaybe a little. But she is also good-natured, warm-spirited, and when it comes down to the line, can really fluff yo sheet up. A terrible enemy to make, but a fine fun friend. Perhaps more notably to the Swamp at large, though, is that after a couple of 'accident's, Rouge has started up her Puppy Breeding Kennels, and has added 'puppy breeder and force-gifter' to her secondary job description - oh, wait, make that 'puppy breeder, force-gifter, and doggie circus trainer', now that she works for The Royal Rainbow Troupe as well!

...And then, one day, she woke up new.

Legendary Blessing Style... As the loving breeder of sand dogs and other goggie-like creatures, Rouge can well understand an expecting parent's desire for many healthy, happy, blessed children! And as a parent as well, of course, uh, yeah. Rouge is always happy to bless, whether in Acha form, goggie form, with or without her pack, whether or not you'd like it - uh, that is to say, extremely flexible!

How did Sunshine manage to get knocked up by a see-through dog?! Rouge has never found an answer to this question. The result was a normal sandpuppy, a see-through sandpuppy ("that looks exactly like a ghostie Kisses eeeee!" ) and a spectral pup, and through coincidence or design, she has kept the last. Named Ribcage ("because it doesn't seem to have one. |: " ), it is somewhat long-suffering but very, very loving, in a quiet sort of way. It is an excellent hunter, thus Kisses approves of this grandchild. It is probably a boy, but Rouge isn't really sure ("because it's SEE-THROUGH" ), but it is certainly a "very good dog."

My eyes fell upon her immediate, though at second glance, I found there were others more striking, perhaps, more lovely, perhaps - I have never even been a fan of eye-searing pink and yellow; what they call destiny, perhaps. I pondered a buck - the thought did not come; the thought that came immediately had to be a doe. I meant to list all does - by the end of the passage, it could only be her: my gay boheme, my deadly artist, my red-stained cactus flower. I wrote it - I fell in love; she was real to me, her swagger, her verve, her bloody ballet - her little dog too. And what a contest - each ensuing entry quailed my heart. I considered the future, considered customs, considered every way to make her true: considered how - but how? - could there possibly be a blossom more perfect than this? I never considered actually winning her - what they call destiny, perhaps. Ah, Rouge. In another life she'd be an 'artist' in the French Quarter, fluttering to men when she runs low on supplies and dumping the suckers after - except for the ones who help her raid the morgue for the more...unusual aspects of her installations, those are keepers. She would have a charming French accent, a most delightful lilt. If you cross her, that delightful lilt becomes a Brooklyn snarl. In other words, she is not unlike Miss Piggy. After a moment of pause, her naming dream came to me, and so I did it straight away - very helpfully referenced off a suitable cactus flower...but why does it look so much like a lotus aaarghh? This was my raw reaction to the news: "So I stumbled up from bed, refreshing my Notice-free Gaia pages; I noticed Acha certs in the certing thread and thought 'oh, the Acha results are up - I wonder who got the cactus flower girl?' So I went to check it out...and stared in bewilderment for the next ten seconds. Yeah, thanks for messing up my notifications, Gaia, because it was the most incredibly awesome suprise I could ever have had! ಥᗣಥ"

PETS :: And her little dog too. I knew it presumptuous of me to write Kisses into her story right off - but how else, I tried to convince myself, could a hunter like her hunt? Besides, she needed her Kisses, her snookums, her snuggum-wuggums. (Named from the same song - but to be honest, it was Maxx who picked it out straight away.) In Rouge's other life, Kisses might have been called Bisou. If I cannot believe I won Rouge, I cannot cannot believe I also got Kisses - and it was exactly Kisses I wanted for her, a smooth cream canvas, perfect for bloodstains. The serendipity of it all still astounds me - how could I have gotten so perfectly lucky? I can't begin to imagine - I can only say: thank you so much, Rejam, for the gorgeous Acha and sandgoggies - and thank you, both Rejam and blue, for your judging, thank you for that so much ahaaahahhahah (Technically male.) | I coveted the spectral hounds and wanted to make Kisses a girl to breed with them. Unfortunately, the path to true love isn't, well, always true. I pitched Sunshine at Massacre right off since a  pup from that would've matched Hemlock wonderfully. Unfortunately and embarrassingly, it turned out I was totally off-base and Massacre is female. But it turned out to be a moot point since I was very nicely informed that Massacre is not up for breeding for extremely understandable reasons. After hearing those reasons, I didn't think that Shade would be up for breeding either, but I had to try anyway. To my amazement and eternal gratitude, Vashtya was happy to help me! I stuffed them into blue's Bribe Thread right away - and, again, to my amazement and eternal gratitude, she picked them up a few weeks later. She presented the litter to me just a few hours after I sent the trade, and once again, to my amazement and eternal gratitude, not only were the puppies all gorgeous (beautiful red-on-white Thunderstorm! SEE-THROUGH KISSES!), Rejam had suddenly redone the spectral hound lines for it. AAAAAAAAA. I'd thought the old lines were adorable, but the new ones killed me, they were simply perfect for the character I'd been mulling over for Ribcage! So this was an incredible experience altogether, and I'm so amazed and eternally grateful to everyone who let me get my wonderful Ribcage. <3 (And now that Rouge has a goggie named right after the title of the song she and all her other goggies are named from, she can keep no more goggies?!?!!) The poison archer. Cue specialises in nasty surprises. In a hazy maze of mangroves and brush, half-swamp, half-land, all dark, the three siblings, Red Ring of Death, Cue Queue, and Cry More, meet for war games. When they run together, they are Cue Death Cry. Would you like to...play?

Poison, traps, and silent devastation: if Cue is on the job, it all goes black. Death would never admit it, but inside he knows - he may be the leader, but Cue is the end. She is her own; the brothers never know where she goes when she doesn't appear, only that she comes back ever stronger. They are her closest, she feels nothing for them; she feels nothing for anyone. She is neither good nor bad, she is indifferent; she is fair, if an eye for an eye is fair. She is a shot in the dark. She knows she has far to go; she knows she will get there.

...Or so she'd fancied. The truth, she has come to realise, is that she and her brothers were brats born into privilege, with nothing to want for, indulging in pretensions of the elegance that is cruelty. She has looked into the dark, and acknowledged she would never be fully of it. She has looked back at her kin, and acknowledged that they will always be at the back of her mind. She has taken another at her side, and acknowledged she will never truly run alone. She'd never admit all this out loud, of course, but at least she's acknowledged it inside. That's a step, now.

...And then there were many more steps. The fool's errand she'd embarked with Once Forgotten upon, to find the Kiokote half-breed's glowing Kimeti father, has made her question much, but also taught her much. None more, however, than when she fell into slumber one day...and woke anew. She speaks little of that Dream, but she was unmade and remade, always a Hunter be, who knows too the place of the Hunted. For it is always a cycle, and there is always a balance. An eye for an eye; if you seek blessings, be prepared to answer 'why'. And if your answer proves lacking...well, Cue herself undertook a journey once, or twice.

Or at least watch out for that squishy little owlcat 'cause once a contrary self-entitled brat, always a contrary self-entitled brat, it bites.

NOTES :: When ELF's Xenophobe first dropped, I was arrested by his blazing green on black - and couldn't help but be reminded, with his scheme and sharp markings, of an Xbox. XD;; I didn't have an Xbox at this point, but it was irresistible. Less than a month later, I won my darling Dark in a blind contest - and as soon as I saw her red-orange blaze, I knew I had to breed her with Xeno for RROD-Xbox'meti. The Festival of Abundance rolled around, and dear ELF agreed to my proposition, and even wrote up a wonderful Love Letter confession that had Dark falling head over heels (never finding out, in her lovably obtuse way, about his darkly bigoted side). XD But Dark had some character development to go, and in the meantime I threw my lot in for All I See's planned breeding. Fast forward half a year later, my attempts had been hitherto unsuccessful, a moratorium had been placed on edited breedings, and, finally, I lost the big edited breeding auction event by 258k - one bid. I had been running on empty and fell asleep an hour before the auction end, with a prior bid of 23m. *cry* To be honest though, I didn't think I was going to win anyway, and I'd had a plan brewing in the back of my mind: blue had finally (okay, it'd been a month, but it was terrifying!) reopened for RLC, and I had plotted over RROD-Xbox'meti for so long that I would need to keep three in total (with Maxx) to be able to use all the names I'd wanted; the only way to mitigate the guilt of that was through paying real moneys for it. So the email went out...and blue did them almost straight away. ಥᗣಥ(cross-posted to Cry's Notes up to here) There were only two does in the batch, and the colours on both delighted me - but with my war games set-up and the name Cue Queue, I knew she had to be the one. XD And I had been coveting Dark and Xeno's eye-searing red and green together on a dark pelt, and, oh boy, did she deliver in spades! She and her twin reminded me of infrared maps, even, and that thrilled me unutterably - how perfect could that get for a girl who devastates in war games in the dark?! Fun fact: Cue is slightly indentical to her twin, Heat Rises - check out their hind markings! Her original naming dream pulled in all her siblings' name for a war games scenario, in a way that sounds like a bit like new wave and a bit like classic punk in my head, but had to be changed for clarity as I'm still hoping to ascend her, because it is perfect for her character...and I desperately need this to happen with her and her brothers. EDIT: And then on the 24th of May 2012, it did. Q_Q

PETS :: I wanted a dangerous pet for her but could never decide on a - till the Giant Wasps were released and instantly I knew she needed one in black and white. It was to be an instrumental part of her RP-arc, so I kept holding off the questing despite having gathered all the info, since it had to be named in RP. I didn't, however, count on Maxx snagging it for me for Christmas! I just love what Absfab did with it - it turned out even more amazing than I'd visualised in my head. His left eye is his weakness, his blind side; the other looks upon all with the same detached gaze - save his brother and leader, Death: for him, he is his faithful right hand, his proconsul. His numbing poultices, reviving potions, healing herbs, all are at the disposal of the buck who slowed a hoof as a colt for him to catch up in his early adjustment. An enemy that Death can dispatch with his swift mercilessness is an enemy he merely observes - he plans tactics, calling directions from a distance - when he must strike, it is skill over strength. Keenly observant, his senses honed in compensation for his flaw; in the dark he holds sway. His words are spare, thoughts guarded; he has some regard for his kin, but in his heart there is only one. Perhaps not even love, but absolutism; perhaps it is not really a heart.

Of the three, he was the first to realise that war games over time turn to training, the first to realise certain skills from this training turn...advantageous. Their abilities are offered to the highest bidder.

To set up the field, we opted for twins and chose buck for a determined sac - that should give me options, for I needed a good option to breed. ...Hathathat. There were plenty of bucks to choose from alright - the buck now known as Parlay, with his perfect colour balance and incredible marking strips, the buck now known as Heat Rises, with that amazing blazing green and red, the buck now known as Red Ring of Death (actually the first name I wanted to use, but thought it would suit Maxx so much better XD), with those. Super. Markings. Come on. Yeah, right - my eye went straight to the one monotone buck, with a relative minimum of markings. 'You can't take him!' my mind rebutted, 'you need a flexible buck for maximum breeding options!' Mind: 0 Irrationality: 1. I just could not get over the neon stream from his eye for Cry More, and once Maxx pointed out he was a perfect counterpart to Death, I flipped. So much for my resolution - but it's a moot point now: I've become so enamoured with him as a character that he's officially super-picky largely-RP-only breeding now, and I don't know which girl in her right mind would go through all that for a dark green buck with a highlighter-neon streak and sharp hind-stockings (to be fair, I doth protest - I am obviously crazy about his sharp neon streak, stockings and contrast hoofs aaaaargh). And the kicker? I adore Cue, she is exactly what I'd hoped for from this breeding and more...but if push came to shove, I suspect I would've taken Cry - I am sunk by the character that sprung almost immediately when I first laid eyes upon the clutch. I know, I know - CRY MOAR N00B. ಥᗣಥ

PETS :: I hope that you will ever have the chance to receive the grace, benevolence, generousity, and pet from ane, because the PM I got Own in was epic. Beyond imagining. And so incredibly prescient too! I'd never thought to seek a foxbun, largely because most of my herd are more in the habit of eating than owning them, but the number of very attractive lovely natural-coloured foxbuns lately have been turning my head and making me covet - missing Abs' amazing foxbun hunt during my week without computer was an especially sore point. I'd also noticed that Gypsum and Fluster had been picked up by Abs for a breeding, which excited me since they were two of my favourite soft lovely natural foxbuns, and I'd been eager to see what buns may come. But I'd never registered at the foxbun directory to telegraph my desire...so imagine my surprise when I saw what bun had come to meee. And it was the most perfect little bun for a grey-addict, with the most beautiful little head. I no longer cared that most of my herd would rather eat it than keep it - some'meti had better keep it because by gum I was not going to give it back. No prizes guessing what occupied me for the next 20 minutes. Throughout my travails, my mind kept returning again and again to Cry...so he was part of a crack team...so they were callous hunters from youth and beyond deadly...so Death is slotted to own a cheetah someday...so the cool tones of the foxbun went rather well with his green. OWN IT IS. Maxx and I have sadly made the executive decision to postphone Own's entrance till after the slated cheetah, because it will be 200% funnier that way - so now I have to get that cheetah ASAP because I can't wait. NOTES :: Looooooooone!!! I am still so psyched! If you've seen my quest thread, you might notice I have a fixation with quests based on other animals. This is slightly similar and slightly different, in that I'd been toying with the idea of getting a kimeti based on one of my beloved little squishy Mini Wyverns but hadn't gotten the right wyv yet...till Succexy. She was a random lost egg that knocked me over when she hatched; she looked like a poisonous bioluminescent alien jellyfish - and I could not get the thought of her as a kimeti out of my mind. After lots of vacillation, I finally decided to do it. I stuffed her into blue's bribe thread, laid out 500k, and begged "Loosely based off this miniwyv of mine, in the sense that I would love to see the colour scheme (minus the white underbelly, please) and some concept of the markings, but can be much simplified, whatever you'd like, etc, etc. - just the general look! Could I request for glowing markings and eyes? I always thought of her as a kind of bioluminescent jellyfish...which is something the kimeti's naming dream would reflect, if that counts as an RP need." And. blue. Took. Her. WIN. When I first saw her, it was utter 5am darkness, early in my week-long sojourn of pain, more pain, and being stuck in the middle of nowhere with a spotty 3G connection on the very first smart phone I'd ever tried to use in my entire life. I'd anxiously spammed and respammed the refresh button to get the image to show up...and when it did, she lit up the dark like a poisonous beacon. Be still my heart - because I then spent the next 12 hours desperately trying to reply to blue's PM. XD Which was nothing compared to the next five days I then tried but failed to post her in the certing thread with my phone. Which is why I'm still waiting for her cert at the time of writing, dying to finally instate her in my journal, over a week from the first moment I saw her. But - oh, how she saved me in the aching darkness, my cynical, poisonous Lone.

FLICKERING :: 14.10.2011 [ sac . foal . colt . buck ]

A liminal soul. Much like his mother - except he failed to inherit her sense of self. A recluse, he wavers in and out of being on the edges of society. At times he doubts his own existence - but who does not? So often alone, he rarely speaks, but when engaged, he may occasionally lapse into poeticism, neither intended nor especially desired. Prone to existentialist ruminations. As it turns out, while his sense of liminality may partially be attributed to his naming dream experience, it can be more practically blamed on his extreme myopia, which may or may not be connected to the brilliant blue of his eyes, a colour inherited from neither parent. When everything you can see flickers in and out of solidity, when your own reflection in a pool is a blurry darkness, it doesn't take much to make the leap to 'was it a vision, or a waking dream?'

He never seeks companionship, but neither does he turn it away. At heart a gentleman, he blankets all with a distant courtesy that borders on chivalry with those of the fairer sex. Friendly, of course, but his mind always seems elsewhere, lost with the blue that can never fix upon your face. When he falls, it matters not whether doe or buck 'cause they all look like blobby bits to him anyway. Lately he has unconsciously come to favour serendipitous midnight meetings with bucks able to commiserate with or willing to indulge his penchant for philosophical explorations on topics such as ceasing upon the midnight with no pain. This probably means that either his reclusion will slowly ebb to the point where he will actually be grateful for that Romantic poet sort of semi-intellectual relationship, or that he'll die of tuberculosis.

NOTES :: This spiel I'd posted upon hearing the news pretty much tells you all you need to know about my frame of mind as far as Blink was concerned: "I know it's bad to get so invested in contests and I always try not to and I've been doing pretty good with that lately but this one just laid me low. I love love Only Dreaming and I was so excited to see her bbys and as soon as you guys posted the clutch group-pic, my eyes went to Buck 4 straight off (which is pretty rare for me, harhar) and I couldn't look away. The whole clutch is drop-dead, but there's just something about what looked like his mother's markings on that dark pelt that murderised me, and I didn't think he was going to make it to the contest without an owner - well, argh. And it's so insidious once it happens - first, the vague sketches of a personality, then the name, then the naming dream, then you're lying awake at night thinking 'how am I going to draw fire I am so derp at drawing fire' (and I am so derp at drawing fire I had to redo the dream three times and it still doesn't look anything like fire ahahah). I - I swear I don't usually do this but I've been staring at the clutch like a creeper on a street corner looking moodily across the road into your happy home as cars glide by through an intersection, and the other day I was just sadly staring at my derp fire and my barely-visible stupid-flicker-trick buck outline and thinking 'what am I going to do with this dream when the contest is over? I can't reuse this one for someone else. I'll have to give it to the winner as fanart.' and now I don't have to and it is just the most amazing feeling and I am so ridiculously happy and aaaahhhhhhhhhh. I totally sound like a creeper now, don't I? I swear I don't usually get this creepy. XD;;" I don't usually get caught up in bucks like this - but, oh, I am so in love with his mother (to be honest, I'm deeply in love with most of my darling Ruri's herd), and he just reminded me so much of her, and one thing led to another and then I was throwing on a quick cheaty animation. (Speaking of which, I was kicking myself mightily over the visual dream, since mine haven't been doing so well lately, and I'd thought I was just handicapping myself.) I had much of his personality already hazily formed in my head (I try not to do this but it's an automatic process OTL), but Ode to a Nightingale kept resounding in my head as I worked, and the rest filled in itself (you might have noticed half his bio is directly quoted from that!). Naturally, he is going to need a songbird based off a Nightingale eventually... (The other two aural influences were the last line of Personal Helicon, and...shamefully...Shawn Colvin's Sunny Came Home. XD;; In my defense, that was because Into the Fire was one of the names I was considering for him to make it explicitly fire-related, but I just couldn't bend the vision like that in the end.) I'm superbly excited about Blink! It's ridiculous, but there are so many things - including that this is a growing sac (my only other was Grey, back in January), and it's my first Ende baby. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next week... Oh, thank you so much, Ruri, Lex. This means so much to me. ETA: When his blue eyes were revealed, it hit me that the best way to play him for comic effect explain his liminality was to have him half-blind. And now that he's all grown... ;A;

PETS :: As soon as Blink was full-grown, I threw a pet request into AbsFab's thread because - he needs that Nightingale. To my immense gratitude, Abs picked it up pretty quickly, and to my immense joy, she made it so gorgeous. That amazing colour, that soft gradient, those subtly marked wings, the adorable pale beak and feet...I'm really over the moon with it, and I can't get over how lovely I find it! Too bad Blink can't actually see much of it, heh. That's why it remains gender unknown for now...though...let's face it. It's the guys that sing at night for mates, innit? ಥᗣಥ (Technically male.)
