It seemed fitting she was named after a bird, since what she was about to do now was bird watch. Locating and cataloging the different species and how often they were in the area was fun! Plus if she waited around long enough she was able to see some birds of prey!

Footsteps fell softly upon the leaf littered ground, the scent of decay a welcomed smell to her sensitive nose. Antlers barely scrapped a low hanging branch, the small branches clicking against her tines and she hoped it didn't startle anything she was wanting to see in particular and stopped in her steps and waited a moment before carrying on.

Perfect took great joy in checking on all the owls in his care. He wandered the vast area that they set up their homes, checking for any tampering or disturbance and offered his aid wherever needed. Most of them were nestled in, huddled away from the cold, so there wasn't much to do but greet them and make sure they kept warm. He noticed a few out and about, diving down for food. One owl in particular circled down and lighted on his back.

"What can I do for you, little one?" He asked affectionately.

The tall and sleek owl seemed to puff out its chest and flapped its wings once before chirping at Perfect. A sad smile crept onto his features and he nodded at the bird.

"Lead the way," he said before the owl rose and picked a direction to start its journey

Seeing as nothing seemed to be alarmed by her sudden disturbance she continued on her way she spotted a red-headed woodpecker, a robin and some chickadees. Smiling she was pleased with the sightings so far and continued about her little path that she had made from constant treks in the same place.

Perhaps she should change it up a bit.

With that thought present in her mind, she decided to go ahead and pick a different path and took a left and headed deeper into the woodlands, the trees were still spread apart enough to let in light, it was quite a lovely day for a stroll.

It wasn't long into her new adventure when she thought she saw something not too far ahead.

The pair travelled silently through the snow, the only sound being the crunch of the snow under Perfect's hooves. He was more than happy to spend his time like this. Though he was sad to be losing a charge, he had hope that the kin this owl chose would be a good one.

Not shortly after venturing the owl gave a small cry and Perfect stopped. He watched as the owl few towards a kiokote. He stood nervously, his large eyes peeled on the pair to see how the interaction would go. However, an amused smile briefly graced his mouth as the owl cheekily landed on the other's branch-like horns and preened as if it would not leave.

If she was being perfectly honest, what happened next wasn't something she was used to happening with the larger birds. An owl came into view, giving a call as it flew through the air and she couldn't help but stop in her tracks. Was it flying towards her? It sure was! Keeping still she waited to see if it was going to land on one of the branches nearby so she could admire it better but she felt a sudden weight upon her head and realized it had made it's roost in an unlikely spot. Uncertain of what to do she kept staying still and watched as Perfect came into view.

"Do they belong to you?" Curious to know where the owl had come from since it seemed to have a familiarity to being around Kins given it's current location.

"I have to say, this is quite peculiar, I've never had something like this happen before. Do they do this often with other kins?" She was assuming the Kimeti was a caretaker of sorts for the feathered beauty. She was delighted beyond believe though that the owl had chosen her antlers to roost upon. Though it was hard for her to look at it but she was patient and could wait.

"My name is Meadow Lark. What may I call you and your friend by?"

Perfect stifled a laugh at the owl's antics and trudged out to meet the pair. She seemed a nice doe and he was glad the owl had picked her.

"I am called Perfect, but please don't think me vain," he replied sheepishly, "and the owl's name is for you to decide on, as he has chosen you to do so. The owls are put in my charge: I take care of them until they inform me they are ready to find a companion and I accompany them on their journey. So I pose to you the same question, what is the name of your friend?"

"Perfect, that's quite a lovely name." His name truly was perfect, if simply for the fact that this moment in itself was beyond anything she could measure by words.

Meadow Lark was a bit speechless at first. Peering up at the pale feathered companion that had claimed her as it's own she couldn't help but feel a warm swell in her breast. "That is such a kind and wonderful thing that you are part of. I feel truly honored that one of your charges has claimed me as it's companion." Looking up at the owl once more as it rested upon her antlers she smiled.

"Dearest." For this owl was and would be near and dear to her for always. "I shall call them Dearest."

His face heated at the compliment and he muttered sheepishly, "Thank you, Meadow Lark."

His heart soared at hearing the name she chose as that's how he felt of each and every owl he ever came across. The owl seemed to be pleased as well as it moved from antler to back - Perfect flinched a bit as he was sure the poor doe wasn't as used to the press of talons as he - and began to preen itself.

"I hope you and your Dearest have many good times and you stay be each others side always." It was the blessing he gave each kin as an owl chose, and it warmed him each time.

She truly couldn't help but feel blessed about today's events. Feeling the owl move from her antlers to her back was a bit of an adjustment and she flinched a little bit at first but she slowly grew used to the talons upon her back.

"I hope that we do as well." She said looking back at the owl and then towards Perfect.

"Would it be okay with you if Dearest and I hung out for a while? I'd like to know more about you and your wonderful Owls." Giving him a warm smile she hoped her and Perfect would become friends.

Smiling she listened intently as he spoke. I'm so excited to learn more about The Sanctuary, I feel honored to be able to get to see your home with the owls. Following along behind him she felt the tiny clawed feet dancing upon her softly as she moved and then the softest swoosh of air as Dearest flew off, as if to lead the way for them, though Perfect was doing that just fine. I guess Dearest is excited to show me where they came from." Continuing along after him she couldn't wait to get to see and learn about Perfect and his owl friends.

"The Sanctuary feels like another world entirely. There are groves and groves of trees with plenty of hollows or branch formations that the owls can nest in. If we're lucky, you might even see some fledglings! Did you know they sleep on their stomachs? Its the dearest thing," He continued to gush whatever he learned, more animated than he'd ever been known to be.

For the first time in forever, Perfect felt excited. He was coming to find he enjoyed sharing is love and knowledge for the creature that kept his heart. He smiled fondly at Dearest as he flew ahead of them, that familiar pang of sadness dulling the more he spent time with Meadow Lark. Perhaps they wouldn't stray so far from him this time after all.
